my hope is a full off season of not rehabbing that hip injury puts him back on track
2010-WS runs when Buster was really Buster, he had so much oppo power and had no issues going with the pitch. Ever since the injury, you have seen none of that. His oppo HR the other day reminded me of old Buster. I'd be excited to watch the season if Buster was Buster again, even if the team sucked. He's one of my all time favorite Giants.
Hes the most important player in San Francisco Giants history.
why over Mays?
Because he was the linchpin for all 3 championships. He commanded the entire pitching staff behind the plate, and hit cleanup on offense. He changed the dynamic of this franchise. We used to always be the runner up. The team that could get close, but always fell short. When he was called up in 2010, he became the team leader almost immediately, and something shifted. We became the team that always won, even in most dire circumstances. Bochy had a big part of it obviously, but as far as players go, Posey is, to me, the most significant player the team has ever had since it moved here.
Mays was the best, but not the most important.

Bum wasn't that good in the 2012 postseason. He almost got left off the WS roster until they fixed his mechanical issue. He pitched a great game 2, but we probably still win that series without him. You never know, but Posey was calling all those big playoff pitching performances. He caught every pitch in every playoff game during those 3 runs, save for I believe 2 games where he played 1B. It also gets forgotten that he hit the would-be WS winning HR in game 4 in Detroit until Matt Cain gave up that HR to Delmon Young to tie it back up.

Bum did struggle in those first two rds in 2012 . Got lit up in St Luis if I recall. It wasn't until the WS vs the Tigers that he locked it down

Posey is amazing and I love the dude. You may very well be right, but I think people forget how important Mays was to the city. He is regarded as the second-most consequential black player in the history of baseball next to Jackie Robinson. The original 5 tool player. He literally redifined the game of baseball.
He also legitimized baseball in san Francisco and has remained an active face of the organization for 7 decades. When you think SF giants baseball, you think Willie Mays.
Without Posey there probably isn't 3 WS in SF. Maybe none. So if you are going off trophies alone, sure. My point is I don't think the giants needed that run of titles to legitimize SF baseball. They already had one of the most beautiful parks in the world and was selling it out. They had been successful. Posey just put the cherry on the top of the sundae that Willie Mays built. IMO.
I don't think there is a right answer here. Lucky to have both.

Willie Mays is the greatest all around player ever, and did a ton to get SF into baseball, but he didn't win one here. McCovey, Marichal, Cepeda, and Perry also had a big impact on SF baseball early on, so he wasn't alone.
Ultimately, it's about winning. People will remember the Mays era Giants fondly, as they got to see arguably the greatest to ever do it. But, they didn't win anything. Posey had a vital role in ending a 50+ year tradition of being a perennial disappointment. He changed the culture of the organization into a winner. All those great teams we had were led by the pitching staff, and he called and framed all those games, while having the pressure of being the guy in the middle of the order that had to come through at the plate.
Posey is more directly responsible for all 3 of those titles than any other player. You cant say that about any Giant in team history. Nobody else in 137 years can say they determined 3 World Series' championships.
I feel like the further away we get from that period, the more apparent his impact will be.

yeah, but I feel like there is a difference between that and what you stated. You said most important baseball player in giants history. I don't think you have to win a championship to be the most important player in a teams history. See Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, etc. If the giants were s**t forever until Posey changed it all I would 100% agree.
if I made a list of important, it would go Mays and then Posey. But cool.

Mays for becoming the face of a franchise
Posey for finally putting it together
