I think the NBA should add veterans league for retired players during summer like the big 3 they are missing out on a lot of revenues. I know there's summer league for Rookies then just add in a veterans league so old players can get paid as well. Just a random thought.

Lol NFL will always be king

Always? Its popularity has been going down, and will keep going down at this rate. Understandably the nfl has been trying to make the game safer, but those rule changes are not what fans want to see. Turning the Nfl into a finesse game is just turning fans off.

The nba has also been making the game softer, but thats worked out. People want to see guys like Curry put on a show. People dont want to see Curry posting up and going to the ft line, like the nba was for so long.

If you are talking about the NBA playing a few more games in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world to increase exposure and ultimately grow merchandise sales and popularity of the sport.. then I agree with you. If you are talking about having teams in other continents and having NBA players make massive road trips then I could not disagree more.

Not feasible, logistically. Maybe a once in four years World Cup type thing... oh yeah, it's called the olympics

Problem with the olympics is that a lot teams are involved, and a lot of them are really bad. This should be a tournament for only the best countries. I wouldn't mind seeing something like that.

Countries still qualify for the Olympics right? The teams are the best of the best. There just isn't that many countries that can field a full team of quality players.

If that's the case, then the olympics are enough. Sorry, carry on.

Popularity Rose in 2018 actually. Do you realize just how much the NFL dominates? It had 34 of the top 50 most watched broadcasts in 2018 and that with the Olympics. Non-Olympic years the NFL gets 40 of the 50.

The NBA did see a good jump in TV viewers but only back to 2013-14 levels. The Gap is crazy.

NBA avg viewers 2017-18 (expected to be lower for last season): 1.28 million

NFL avg viewers 2018: 15.8 million

This is without digital viewers which the NFL dominates to an even greater degree. The NFL isn't just the most popular. It's a 500-lbs gorilla in a room with spider monkeys.

It also helps a lot that they are on once a week basically. If nfl had a 80+ game schedule, they wouldnt be having those ratings. The fact that you can only see your team once a week, is must see TV. If the Lakers would play the Clippers this season just once or twice, and you can see those teams play only 16 times, the ratings would also be close to Nfl level, maybe not quite there, but easily in the 10s, pretty much what they pull in the nba finals.
It's 14 bil to 7.5 bil in revenue generated. Even with less games they kick everyone's butt. The NFL is bigger. NBA players make more though due to 4× less players + far superior marketing opportunities.

The NFL dominates TV ratings (which is the revenue driver) because it's only 20 weeks or so. I think in terms of year around relevancy, interest, NBA dominates now.

It's not a coincidence that ratings for the big three have all declined in the last ten years. Attentions spans are shorter. The leagues will need do find creative ways to make revenue, and the NBA is doing that. Their star power is unmatched.

You just described the Olympics. There isn't a single top basketball nation that isn't represented and the U.S. still cleans everyone's clocks when they are motivated to do so. A collection of the top high school basketball players in the U.S. could work most national teams. The competition just isn't there.

Other teams might have one or two individually great players but then you go down the line and most of the remaining guys wouldn't make it in the G League while the U.S. team can have 5 All-Star caliber players on the floor at anytime.

If Yugoslavia was still one united nation, that might represent the only real threat to America but even then they'd still have an uphill climb.

Ratings, movie attendance are down everywhere. That's the internet for you. Still a big NFL game will dwarf a big NBA game in any capacity whether It's ratings, attendance, gambling. The only thing NBA has them on superstar power.

When the piece of crap preseason Hall of Fame game gets higher ratings than most NBA playoff games, that still says that the NFL is king by a considerable margin.

And thats bc the way the nfl is set up. Its 16 games a year. If the nba was 16 games a year, and only one game in the playoffs, you would see ratings nearly as big. The nba finals 2 years ago or 3 was 12.7. If it was just one game between Cavs and GS, it wouldve been higher. Nba games would sell out consistantly if it was just once a week. Im not saying they would do better than the NFL, but it would be much closer ratings wise at least.

A Monday night football game can get higher ratings than most NBA finals games

I thought we were talking about club teams, not national teams.

Its tough to get people to care for a 7 game series between the Hornets and Raptors. You know whos gonna win, and its just drawn out. Would you watch a 7 game series between the Titans and Chargers? Those ratings wouldnt be that good.
