He isnt complaining about a trade. He IS complaining about players not fullfilling the terms of the contract that they signed (with no guns to their heads) and demanding trades. I could not agree more. I have NO issue with KD leaving as well as Kawhi. Kerr doesnt either as both were free agents that completed their contracts. If a player doesnt want to commit to a team then dont sign the contract. Its that simple.

It makes no difference to me if its Paul George or AD. Both bailed on their teams by demanding a trade. I do think Kerr should have made that clear and not just mention Davis.

Kendrick Perkins is a fool if he really believes that.

Seriously

Yup....didn't mention PG asking for a trade with 3 years left...I don't know why everyone's hating on AD (oh I know, because of Lebron, Rich Paul and Lakers) and if players sign on the dotted line, so does the team. If a team can trade a player...then I see nothing wrong with a player asking for a trade either. Stop with the double standards.

So let's not have guaranteed multiyear contracts then. Every contract is a single season guaranteed contract and players are all free agents at the end of each season.

Well what? What you said came out of left field and isn't the same conversation or argument. There's nothing to say.

If a team can trade a player and not honor the contract they signed with him then players can demand trades too. Kerr is the guy that traded a beloved Marion for a washed up Shaq and then traded Shaq a year later. He sounds like a bitter old failed GM.

Lol what? All of a sudden, youre acting as if trades have not been accepted as a way of doing business not only in the NBA but other professional leagues.
The advantage of NBA contracts for players is that they for the most part are guaranteed, are they not?

So a player can demand the lifelong financial security off a multi year guaranteed contract AND demand a trade at any time? Why would any team or league agree to that as a matter of common practice? I'm speculating that it cannot be both. If players want the right of mobility at any time, then one practical way to enable that is one year or very short term contracts. Cant have both.

The AD trade (and PG13) were shocking, exciting, and exhilarating as it played out, but we already know they caused serious angst and discussion in the team owners meetings. I dont know why people would find Steve Kerrs comments all that surprising.

First of all, one has nothing to do with the other. Kerr said - players sign on the dotted line and therefore shouldn't demand a trade. Well, the contract is signed by both parties. If it's ok for teams to break that contract and trade the player - then it is absolutely ok for players to ask for trade. Can't have it both ways.

Secondly, as far as guaranteed contracts go - there is no such rule in the NBA that forces NBA teams to hand out long term guaranteed contracts. Several players were released this summer who had contracts that were partially guaranteed.

In spirit, I'll agree with you. In practice, how is that workable? (btw, I have never seen the exact wording of an NBA contract, but I would presume there is language there that says a player can be traded unless there is a specific no trade clause. Contract language that is ratified as per their CBA.

But teams are guaranteeing contracts because they can. To entice and benefit players to sign. Oky fine, so players would rather just have non guaranteed contracts then in exchange for mobility? None of them want that.

This would make sense if teams were not allowed to trade players. If an owner can trade a contract and not fulfill their side of the contract I have no problem with players also being able to initiate trades.
Nope not going to get excited Ben. Not going to do it. Nope. Not happening
