Even Garnett didn't want to get traded to Boston.
Only star went to Boston was Gordon Hayward - and that was because of Stevens - more than anything else.
Didn't Kyrie Irving end up in Boston at least for a while anyway? He looks like he will move on now. But he was there at least for a time right. Is he a superstar? He is at least a really excellent player when healthy. He is hurt a lot. There may be some head issues with him. Kyrie seems a lot about Kyrie at times and not the team. He can be a disruptive force I think.
Kyrie was traded there and Boston wasn't on his list of teams he wanted to be traded to.
Well they have had some great players for long periods of time and across multiple Championship runs. They had Bill Russell. The had Bird, Mchale, Parrish. Yes it's not really recently if that is your criteria. I'm just saying they have had some greats who stayed for long extended time periods and won multiple Championships across time when they were there.
Boston is not really a huge market which a lot of the players seem to want for endorsement deals. Like New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Los Angeles also has the advantage of a really nice climate in addition to the very large market which makes them marketable as super stars in that venue.
Historically speaking at least Boston has had some all time greats and guys who stayed on for the long term. But free agency has changed over the years and decades. The way the old NBA was a lot of times guys would stay 10, 12, 15 years or their whole career with the original team that drafted them. Now there is a lot of mobility and free agency is a big thing. There is probably more power to the player and less to the club now a days. The players union lobbied for that over the years. Players pick and chose where they go now. There is so much competition for the top guys they have choices and really call the shots more so than the organization.
