***2019 NBA OFF-SEASON***

Phoenix Suns In a span of hours, the Suns dealt productive forward T.J. Warren, the No. 6 pick, the No. 32 pick, and a protected 2020 first-round pick from the Bucks. In exchange, they received Aron Baynes, Dario Saric, Cam Johnson, Ty Jerome, and cash.
Baynes is a solid veteran talent for a team looking to compete (which the Suns are not), so he could get bought out. Saric is coming off a crummy year and is due loads of money next season. Johnson was expected to be a late-first round pick at best.
I'm not sure what they were thinking.

F Phoenix Suns – I'm not sure where to begin here. The Suns traded T.J. Warren and a second-round pick to the Pacers for cash, and then traded the sixth pick to the Timberwolves for Dario Saric and the 11thpick, which they then used to draft sharpshooting guard Cameron Johnson from North Carolina. They already have Devin Booker, which makes the Johnson pick a head scratcher, especially when he went way higher than any of us thought he would. Most of my Rotoworld colleagues suggested I give the Suns an F- or even a G, but I didn't take the bait. The embattled franchise and fanbase has been beaten down enough, and a simple F should suffice.

These takes are really lazy. Plenty of room to criticize the Suns but this is just weak. Its obvious that some of these folks haven't watched more than a half of Suns basketball in the past year. Not that I blame them or anything..

One of the worst 3 point shooting teams in basketball just added the top shooter in the draft?

Saric is on a dirt cheap contract for next season.

One of the worst outside shooting teams in the NBA added three guys who can spread the floor and knock it down from outside which is what they need to open up more space for Ayton inside.

I like Saric quite a bit myself but I just don't think he really moves the needle for a rebuilding team like PHX.

Hey is what it is....I haven't seen one positive thing from NBA analysis regarding what the Suns did the past 24hrs

11. Timberwolves - Cameron Johnson, Forward, North Carolina (proposed trade to the Suns)
Well, this is unexpected. Johnson is actually headed to Phoenix along with Dario Saric for the rights to draft Jarrett Culver at No. 6, which begs the question… Did the goats make this pick? Johnson was largely projected as a late first-rounder in most mock drafts.
I actually like Johnson quite a bit. I thought he would be an excellent selection for a team in the early 20s as a player who could come in and help right away. He's probably the best shooter in the draft, and he has positional size. He's able to get his jumper off over most defenders. There's a ton of value in that alone.
But Johnson is also already 23 years old. He's a limited to non-existent on-ball creator. He's skinny and almost certain to struggle defensively at the next level. He also has an extensive injury history and had reportedly been flagged by multiple teams for those injury issues. His best case scenario is a 3-and-D combo forward.
Phoenix, a team drastically in need of a point guard, passed up the chance to draft a good one at No. 6 in Coby White in exchange for a fine role player? This selection is frankly awful.

Grade: F

11. Minnesota Timberwolves: SF Cameron Johnson, North Carolina
This pick was made by the Suns, who traded 6 for 11 and Dario Saric. The Suns did this because they've got all this youth. Johnson's a guy who's as ready to play. But what a stunning move. No one expected him to be this high. Johnson was not even one of the 24 players invited to the official draft green room. This is wild to me. Grade: D

It's all a crapshoot in the NBA draft once you get past the elite talent...I think you're giving them a little too much credit though. I can't say much I hated the my teams pick (Magic fan).

He doesn't have to move the needle though. I don't understand this notion that you have to be a 50+ win team to add a guy like Saric. He fits a real need for the Suns as a power forward that can spread the floor and open things up for Ayton inside. He is a huge upgrade considering who they had this past season.
It's all about Luka Samanic!

I haven't seen much analysis that shows real understanding of what the Suns issues were. Johnson is/was a huge reach but if he turns out to be an elite level shooter in the NBA then it really won't matter a whole lot where he went.

This team was awful from outside last season which along with not having any real PG was a huge detriment to Ayton inside. They added shooting, they added a PG, they added a PF to space the floor. Now it just depends on what they do in FA.

If they go out and sign Cory Joseph at PG, then giving away Warren really hurts.

If they go out and sign Russell then suddenly it makes some sense.

C-Ayton
PF-Saric
SF-Bridges
SG-Booker
PG-Russell

Bench

Oubre
Johnson
Baynes
Jerome
Okobo
Daniels

Would be a huge upgrade to what they had this past season.

He's the most overrated GM in the league.

and yet ESPN loves what he did last night:

Langford and Williams were great picks for them although they seem to be rather wing heavy at this point. Someone is getting moved.

I think the main point is they traded away the rights to get Culver, so they could have Dario Saric for a yr and most would agree they reached on Johnson. Hey let's see how it plays. Like I said my team took a ACL player (god damn every sport )

Not really sure what else Boston fans would be expecting? They didn't have high end picks and outside of the top 3 guys it was basically a crapshoot.

It's not the NFL

Celtics have treated their players like commodities under Ainge. This is why top players don't want to come play for them. Plus, it's boston

I think I heard last night that he's yet to draft an all star since 03. That's horrible for such a prestigious franchise.

Doesn't pretty much every team do that? Like the Lakers just blew up their whole roster to trade for AD after trying to blow it up a few months back.

That's different though. Players know getting traded is part of business. But, they had Baynes opt in to his contract on assurances that he won't be traded this summer. He was traded couple of days later.

They assured IT that they'll pay him what he deserves - he played thru injury and sister's death for them and was traded when he aggravated his injury. They even asked him to delay his contract extension so they can sign Hayward.
