I thought that had to do with AD waiving his $? I just don't think there is any way Griffin is going to infringe on their $30mil in cap space to do the lakers a solid

Interesting detail on the trade kicker. The Lakers have to take the cap hit on the $4 million, but the pelicans are the ones that actually have to pay him that money. It would be in their interest financially to help the Lakers to get that trade kicker waived.

Curious 4ML... why would Griffin want to do the Lakers any favors? What would they get back to make it possible for the Lakers to get a 3rd max player. It just seems so unlikely that the Pels would want to help a team in their own conference unless they get something incredible back.

He doesn't have to. From what I read - there seems to be an agreement between a Pelinka and Griffin that if a third team is included - trade will go thru on July 6th and if Lakers need to free up cap space, Lakers will have an opportunity to talk to that 3rd team or bring in a 4th team to help Lakers get to max cap space.

So I was watching a podcast of some "expert" on nba trade stuff - can't recall who it was - he said, basically NOLA could not trade Lakers 4th overall pick to Hawks unless Lakers approve it (bc technically Lakers own the pick till the trade goes thru).

He then logically assumed that Lakers and Pels have known these scenarios and are working together rather than against each other and if Lakers do need the max cap space, they're free to do a trade with that 3rd team or bring in a 4th team into the trade.

Good point. Also, I'm wondering - lets say Lakers get an agreement with a max player at 32M. On July 6th - first thing in the morning Lakers sign the max player first instead of calling the trade in with Pels. Both teams have to call NBA office together to approve the deal. Now the only way this trade goes thru is Wagner and Bonga going out in this trade. Lakers decide to throw in 3.5M as cash considerations (covers their salaries for 2020 year). Will Hawks and Pels really pull out of the trade? Hawks won't want the players they drafted for Pels and Pels don't want to lose all the draft capital, BI, Lonzo they've collected.

It will literally f**k up all 3 teams.

That's why I think it's in everyone's interest to work together rather than out of spite.

If Lakers don't get max player - everything proceeds as is.

Along with my previous posts - it's really not up to Griffin. Lakers don't have to send Wagner and Bonga to Pels. They can send them to Hawks. Free of cost too if they send Hawks 3.5M in cash considerations. There are local reports from LA about Lakers feeling pretty confident that they can get to max slot IF needed. Not sure if reports are true - we will just have to wait to find out.

If they don't get the max player - they can continue with the trade as is.

Sign him. Get Kawhi Leonard. You can go to the Championship with that.

Wow. You think a team with AD, Kawhi, and Lebron can make it to the championship? That's some amazing analysis right there.

I'll be honest though - as much as I would love Kawhi, Lebron and AD - it'd be too much.

Would love Lakers to sign DLo as the third guy at around 18-20M and get Seth Curry, Justin Holiday, Nerleans Noel.

Resign McGee, Bullock and Caruso . Get Korver and Melo (only if he understands that he's a backup) on minimum deals.

Justin Holiday (Alex Caruso)
DLo (Seth Curry backup, Korver)
Kuzma (Bullock)
Lebron (Melo)
AD (Noel)

Of course you sign Kawhi if you have the chance, but it'll be a lot of fun to see DLo and Seth Curry with Lebron and AD as well.
Darren Collison - 36% career 3pt shooter, solid player not ball dependent and leaves more cap space to sign other role players is a great option as well. I am with you those 4ML

Great insight here. Going out on a limb

Ya thats what i want as well. Just sign some good role players, and maybe Dlo. But im not crazy about Dlo. He is still a poor/average defender. Lonzo wouldve been such a great fit for this team
