It's like asking Ronaldo to do it in the world Cup.

Except Ronaldo is a European champion.

Messi can't show up on the big stage. Dude can't beat Chile in Copa America, and got flat out beat by Roma and Liverpool in the Champions League. Literally, the most overrated athlete I've ever seen.

lol this may be the dumbest post this week...and that's saying something after what happened here last few days.

Truth post.

I am not bashing Ronaldo at all. I think we are very lucky to watch two of the best ever in Messi and Ronaldo. They are both getting older, so enjoy them while you can. Soccer dosn't work like the American sports. You don't have to win a World Cup or the UEFA to be the best.

Winning a WC matters for players that play for the elite soccer nations, and Argentina has been a part of that group for a long time. You dont expect playes like Hagi or Stoichkov to win a WC bc their teams werent that great, just like with Portgual, they arent a power house. But not only has Messi failed at winning a WC but has performed very poorly on that stage. While Ronaldo has had exceptional games in the WC and Euro.

When your a great player and play for a great team, you need win a WC to be called the goat. Hes a great player, but hes not the goat and hes not better than Ronaldo.

Then tell me when was the last time Messi had the players around him in his national team. How do you explain players like Cruyff or the great Yashin. Neither won a WC. Soccer is the ultimate team game. To blame one player for not winning a game ( WC,UEFA or any other cup) is wrong. I don't like to compare Messi vs Ronaldo since, I like both players.
As for Ronaldo being the GOAT, i guess you never saw Pele, Cruyff or Beckenbauer play. By far better players than Ronaldo and it's not even close.

Argentina hasn't been a powerhouse since the mid-90s.

Ill give you that, but the past 2 WCs they still put out a pretty good team. Guys like Aguero, Di Maria, Dybala, are some of the best in the world. Ronaldo would kill to have had players like that surrounding him on this NT team.

Point is, outside of Barca, he hasnt been good. And if you want to be the GOAT you gotta at least perform well for your NT at the WC.
Ahhh makes sense that Ronaldo fans are upset bc Messi won his 6th this week.

...and that comparison graphic actually favors Messi. Messi is 2 years younger and has played 30 fewer Champions League games lol

Anyway, I think both Ronaldo and Messi are amazing. Not sure how you think highly of one and think the other is most overrated ever.

He must have missed today's game.

Yea, I missed the game against the almighty Mallorca (17th place in the standings)

The last time Messi played a real team:

Lol, you talk about soccer intelligence but fail to exhibit one. How can you blame one player for the failure of a team? BTW, I've been around to see Pele play.
I am not trying to insult you, but I can tell that you either have never played soccer or just simply don't understand it.

First, I said nothing about soccer intelligence. I simply said you provide no reasonable polemic to argue your point. You simply attack people. It's weak AF. Stick to the topic. Give me a reasonable argument to prove your point.

Lol. Right. Grew up in the Bay Area from European immigrant parents. My father was played competitively in Europe and here in the states. I also played throughout high school and club soccer. Still play recreational outdoor. Nothing too competitive. Regardless, I don't fall for "Messi is the GOAT" nonsense, choosing to ignore his consistent failures. I look at facts. Like this fact:

And this one:

Sorry head to head Messi is ahead of Ronaldo in goals. And he is two years younger. Neither is better than Pele or Cruyff.

First off, i never said Ronaldo is thr GOAT. I still consider that to be Pele, and if R9 would've stayed healthy and in better shape, would've been him.

As far as Cruyff goes, he only played in one WC. So who knows how the Dutch team wouldve done with him. But didn't he get like kidnapped and thats why he missed the following WC? Or some crazy story like that.

And Messi has had good players around him. Dybala, Di Maria, Aguero. And im sure im.foegeting others as well. Plus, i said that Messi needs to at least show up for these WC games. Hes played poorly in many of them. You can't argue that.

Strong logic.

Aguero, Dybala, and Messi play the same position. That's why Messi starts and Aguero comes off the bench and Dybala doesn't even play. Argentina doesn't have any defenders or midfielders who can control the midfield.

You can put the greatest of goal-scorers all on one 1 team and give them below average mid-fielders and defenders - and you'll see that team struggle.

Plus, Messi did have a great WC and took the team to Finals and won player of the tournament.
Must be awesome play on the same team your entire career, surrounded by elite talent every single season, and never having to overcome adversity and out the team on your back. Playing in the 2nd or even 3rd best league, smashing no name teams like Las Palmas, and Mallorca.

When you know you can't succeed outside of that environment, you stay in it.

Even then, surrounded by Di Maria, Dybala, Mascherano, Aguero, Rojo, Higuain, Lamela, etc. and STILL can't win s**t.

When the pressure is on, Messi s**ts the bed. Facts.

Messi and Pique out vs Inter. Don't understand Valverde's move.
