Morey was either incredibly naive for sending out that tweet or he knew exactly what he was doing. Either way, he is a dumfuk for doing it.
Some owners may have to hold off on that third yacht and fourth vacation home in the Hamptons. Millionaire athletes might have to earn a couple million less on their next $50 million contract. Such are the horrors of modern living.
The problem the NBA ran into is that when you actively promote yourself as an organization that supports free speech and activism and encourages your players, coaches and executives to speak out on issues that are important to them, you can't go all full Stasi because China gets sand in their vaginas over a GM showing support for protesters in Hong Kong trying to hold on to whatever semblance of democracy they may still have left.
Now the NBA is in no-man's land where both left and right in the U.S. are unloading both barrels into them and China has already gone on a drama queen power trip, canceling TV contracts and trying to throw their weight around. In the end, the NBA still offers a product that China simply cannot replicate. Nobody cares about their basketball leagues so the NBA can ride out the storm while still supporting their actual employees and not being hypocritcal douchenuggets.
