I love it
Hilarious NBA has no problem when Kerr, Pop, SVG, Lebron, et al. rip Trump or go on anti-gun tirades, and they'll crow about how player/coaches are free and even encouraged to speak out...but then NBA pisses down its leg because a GM offers words of support for HK, where people are protesting because (among other things) they'd prefer China not be able to basically arrest and disappear them.
They live in the US so obviously they will care more about what happens in our country. Kerr doesnt need to be at the front of every single international issue. Him taking a stand against the orange moron doesnt mean he needs to go after every single country that has a terrible leadership.
Oh please, Kerr swims in praise from the woke circle-jerk when he screeches about orange man bad and advocating for infringing upon the 2A rights of American citizens.
But then this intelligent, educated, well-read, SJW deep-thinker who has a brother-in-law that is a professor of Chinese history, and who also is a stream of CNN, NYT, and WaPo fare, suddenly he's befuddled by HK/China, it's "bizarre" and "doesn't know what to make of it"...Mao, Great Leap Forward, tens of millions murdered/starved, Tianamen Square little guy standing in front of a tank, brutal oppression, actual concentration camps, yeah I'm sure it's just so unknown and confusing to this paragon of virtue, he needs to read a dissertation and attend a couple of lectures before he can comment.
You see the storm of s**t Daryl Morey is in? Yeah, Kerr should jump right in there with him. The fault is on the NBA FO for not backing up their own because they're too afraid to lose out on the Chinese market. Kerr would have been an idiot to speak out for or against when the asocciation itself has no idea how to proceed, first condemning Morey and then taking a half-step back on their initial reaction.
What Kerr said was a tactical decision, because it could mean lots of lost revenue for the NBA in China. NBA is gonna make money in the US regardless who is in office and the opinion they have on the current POTUS.
When woke capitalism and bald-faced hypocrisy collide. Yes, I do see what's happening with Morey and it's ridiculous. The guy had the bus backed over him by Silver, and could lose his job...and why? Because he offered up relatively banal support for HK. But if he went off on some tangent that we must confiscate all guns from American citizens, the NBA would be the head cheerleader praising him for his brave stance.
Kerr is such a phony if he's allowing the dollars & cents of NBA revenues to usurp his principles...dude practically breaks an ankle sprinting for a camera and microphone when Trump pisses him off or there's a shooting, but even the most tepid support for Hong Kong is a bridge too far. Not saying he needs to tell Xi to go f**k himself and publicly denounce China, but a simple "I support the people of Hong Kong" might be nice. But evidently that's some heavy lifting, whereas just so easy to be "courageous" when preaching to the woke Twitter choir.
