That's fair to say when comparing their ability in general, but what matters most is how they fit the team/system. We don't know how it'll eventually work out but on paper it makes sense having Wiggins over DLo.

I think Marcus Thompson summed up my thoughts nicely, especially the bolded:
"First off, this deal would have been there in the offseason," Thompson explained. "There's no line of people trying to get Andrew Wiggins, he would've been there. I think everybody in the league agrees with that. Minnesota wanted D'Angelo Russell in July, they wanted D'Angelo Russell in February, I'm willing to bet they would've wanted him again in June. Because that's Karl-Anthony Towns' boy, and that's the one guy that will make him happy, and that's what they were trying to get. So this trade that happened now would've been there."
Assuming this trade would be available later also means you are betting that the main trade pieces stay healthy until the offseason, which isn't guaranteed. If DLo or Wiggins got injured, this deal may not have been there anymore. Obviously nobody can predict injuries so there's no right or wrong way to approach the strategy, but there's definitely a risk factor that can't be overlooked.
If DLo and Wiggins both fit into the long-term plans of their future teams then why not do the deal now? Both players will have the remainder of this season to get acclimated to their new teams. Neither team is going anywhere this season, why not get the future started now?
"(Myers) had to take a deal he normally wouldn't have taken, I think he would've waited. The worst part for me: Come June draft, the Finals have all been worked out, the teams that have flamed out have flamed out, the drama has started, the players are upset and want to move, and maybe a couple stars pop up on the radar being able to be traded. What's the Warriors package now? Is Wiggins going to do something in these last 30 games to make people say 'yeah we've gotta have him for $33 million a year?' I don't know that he's doing that."
Thompson claims that "maybe" a couple stars pop up on the trade block. Is this just a general assumption or are some star players actually projected to be moved this offseason? I don't doubt that blockbuster trades are a possibility, but I also wouldn't want the Warriors to hold onto DLo blindly waiting for a blockbuster to "maybe" pop up.
Luckily we'll have the benefit of hindsight in the offseason and we'll see if any star players do become available/get traded. If they do, we can see what was packaged for them. If they don't, it was a good move to trade DLo now rather than wait.
The bottom line according to Thompson is that Russell is the type of asset you could package for a star player. Wiggins, at this point, is not.
"I feel like they did just get a worse package to use on the market. If Ben Simmons becomes available and you've got Wiggins and a pick, I don't know if it's as attractive as Russell and a pick. Say what you want about Russell, he's got market value. He can handle the ball, he can shoot, he's a guard, everybody wants a scoring guard, he's clearly got more market value. Maybe he doesn't get the deal done but I think he's got a better shot of getting it done.
I may be wrong, but I don't feel like Wiggins was acquired to be a trade-piece. I think the Warriors see his potential on this team and gambled on his upside.
As for DLo, it seems Thompson might have overrated his market value. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, DLo did not have much trade value outside of Minnesota. He claims the Warriors got 1 other offer and it was not close to Minnesota's deal.
"Basically it feels like they gave up on that star chasing front and were like let's build us another strength in numbers team."
Sounds good to me. Adding another star player to this team would obviously be awesome but it's not necessary to win. We already have a championship core and adding good role players to support Steph, Klay, and Draymond should be enough to get us back on top.
Strength in numbers!
