Watched the Ali-Frazier fight #1 on ESPN, WOW! The two boxers were never the same after this fight. Frazier was hospitalized for 3 days after the match. He was basically carried out of the ring and looked dazed. Ali was spent and exhausted after the 15 rounds. Burt Lancaster gave excellent color commentary, Don Dunphy called the fight, Johnny Addie was the ring announcer. Ali and Frazier received 3 million each (tremendous amount at the time). Legendary referee Arthur Mercantie received $300, that's all. Ali was coming back after 3 1/2 years idle due to declining the draft. Two undefeated Heavyweight Champions meeting will never be seen again. I've followed sports for many years, this fight may be the greatest single event in the history of sports.

Hell yeah, Zaire, Africa. Stamped Ali as the best ever. Foreman was the young stud and Ali was on his way out, supposedly. Foreman fell for all of Ali's crafty moves. Rope a doped the f**k out of him. Ali was different. Hell of a fight, and upset
The Ali/Frazier 1 was two all timers in their prime just throwing power shot after power shot. Frazier had the fight of his life. Ali proved to everyone he could take punishment. 15 rounds of war. Both sent to the hospital for days after. Frazier couldn't even walk out of the ring on his own after the fight, and neither could give a post fight interview... Ali was coming back after the 2.5 year ban for not going to Nam. What an event. Neither guy was the same after
Funny to look in the crowd during these old fights. All men in suits, and so many mobster looking dudes lol. They ran s**t

Was truly remarkable him coming back after that time off and take down the mike Tyson of that generation . Always triggers a bit of emotion when I watch that fight

Hell yeah... didn't know you liked watching old school boxing. Nothing like it... seems like Tyson crafted his style after Frazier. Good call calling him Tyson of that generation

Sorry, should have been more specific. Was referencing Foreman . But that looping left hook of Frazier's was very Tyson-esque

Ali, even after the time off was such a deadly puncher. His jab was fast and packed so much power. Smokin' Joe? His body shots broke ribs. It seemed his classic left hook came from the canvas. Rocky Marciano hit so hard that when he hit your arms they would go numb and left opponents defenseless. It was a miracle that neither boxer was counted out.

I like how the heavyweights back in the day were leaner than the heavyweights now. It made the fights more technically pleasing. Now, it's more of two big brutes throwing a bit wildly
205-218ish was the sweet spot back in the day. Marciano was sub 200. Maybe now a lot of top athletes around that weight gravitate towards other sports. Boxing is truly a poor man's sport. It's hard and you gotta grind. Back in the day being the heavyweight champ meant you were the king of the world. It's a hard sport. The talent today is in the 135-140 range. Guys that small have no other athletic options, for the most part, professionally. But nothing like an elite heavyweight fight. I cheer for Deontay Wilder because he's an American heavyweight and the best we got, but the truth is he is not technically sound and is only relevant right now because the heavyweight class isn't good. Wilder isn't that good. He just waits to land with the right
Thrilla in Manila is another boxing gem

In some far away galaxy aliens pick up a radio signal they're trying to decipher, "Down Goes Frazier, Down Goes Frazier".
