You guys still think we should and/or will land Jackie Bradley Jr?
Thoughts?

I think Bradley Jr. is a career .240 hitter (outside last year) who has played his entire career in a hitters park. He's had a couple of years where he had decent homers, but plays in Boston, NY and Baltimore so they can't be trusted. I think he's not a good hitter but plays great defense. I can't see Farhan chasing that given what he's trying to build. So I would pass. But who knows.

I have never been a huge fan of JBJ, but I can see his appeal. I'd pass unless it was a cheap deal. I see him signing a much bigger deal than I personally would want to give him.

So he's Billy Hamilton, but instead of base-stealing you get some extra big flies. I'll pass too then. Good points.

For the upcoming season, Keith Law has our farm system at #9 overall. Pretty impressive, as I don't remember once being top 10 or maybe even top 15 ever under Bobby and Brian.

And next year, they're going to have a lot of money coming off the books 🤑

Really nice quiet off-season the Giants are having. I really liked what they did with the pen. A lot more competition there and should result in a much improved BP than last years.
Got some good depth in the contact hitter range, and La Stella just opens it up more to be more creative.
I think they'll add one more arm to the starting rotation group too. At least someone to compete for that 4/5 spot.
Z retooling and rebuilding the farm system is huge and I expect him to continue that.
i know it's nothing what the Dodgers and Friars have done but this team will compete. We saw it last year and I don't see why not this year. Just having Posey around will be a huge morale boost.

One last hoorah for Posey. Hopefully the fans realize this is it and give him a good sendoff. He probably wont want any attention and will keep it to himself until the year is over.

yeah, I don't get this take. They were under .500 with a 60 game season. If you took that winning percentage and spread it out over 162 games, they would have had an awful win loss record. You really think that team, or this one, comes close to .500 and competing across a real 162 game season?
I love what he's done to fix the farm system. And I am fine with the team this year given where it was and the vision I think they are building. But that doesn't mean I need to lie to myself and say they will compete.

Last I checked we were in the thick of things for a Wild card spot so yes they were competitive. Forget the record... how man crazy blown saves did we see? Remember that stretch against the A's , Angels and Pads? Was like 3 in a row and 5/7.
we weren't blown out given the makeup of our roster vs the rest of the west.
I did not say we would win the west, make the playoffs. I said we would compete and I truly believe this. I feel this team will be competitive and not go out there and be sheep to the wolves. This team was in the fight in a lot of games.
can't compare last seasons shortened season to a 162 year. That is not a way to go as the direction could've been entirely different.
Finished 29-31 right? Without those blown saves it's a whole new ballgame. Given that we have an much upgrades pen should give reason to expect improvements.
Say we finish in 3rd... to be expected but to say this team cannot go out there and compete is silly. It's baseball. This is the one sport where a team like the Giants can go out there and beat the Dodgers.
not saying we're going to win the west and make a run but I do believe we will see a competitive team.
so you're telling me we weren't a competitive team? A lot in here felt we'd finish with a top 3 pick.. didn't happen. Or we'd be at the bottom of the division.,nope.

well I guess we have a different definition of competing. Competing to me isn't not getting blown out. Its not having a sub .500 record. Its not having a decent stretch once or twice in the season. And without the expanded playoffs of a 60 game season, that under .500 team wouldn't be close to a wild card. And they didn't get a wild card spot. Competing to me is being one of the teams capable of actually winning something. You don't have to win a WS, but you should be in the talk. And every team can make excuses on a couple of losses. It was still a loss.
I'd rather just be realistic and admit they are rebuilding and not try and pretend this team will compete with the good teams. But if it makes you and garce feel better thinking this is a wild card team, cool.
