Agreed. It's silly to draw any conclusions from a 60 game season IMO. But to John's point, they were solid for us for that short season.

I am on board with saying goodbye to Belt and Crawford. Encourage it even. But I want to keep Posey as long as he wants to play. You can do far worse than having him manage the staff and bat 7th.
Im ok with all of them moving on unless Buster wanted to take a significant pay cut and role with the team. The Giants are basically in a rebuild with 2 of their top prospects being catchers. I would be surprised if he was with the Giants after next season.

Well yeah my unwritten assumption would be that he would come back for a much smaller amount.

And yeah I know two of our top prospects are catchers. I could be reading too much into it, but drafting a catcher in the 1st round right after we drafted Bart might give us a little insight to what Farhan thinks of Bart.
I wonder about that too. Farhan didnt draft Bart and may see him as a viable trade asset to go get a pitcher. Bailey is supposed to be the better defensive catcher.

Farhan Did the same thing with the Dodgers by drafting two catchers in Will Smith and Ruiz who are still within the organization. Personally I am not looking too much into it

I liked it the other way, but it also looks normal when you see it.

Glad they at least kept the cream color. Fans will get used to the last names quickly. Looks like they went back to the 7.5 inch numbers like the roads, which makes sense.

Ruiz was an international free agent signing. This is far different than two first round picks.

When Bailey was selected I don't think Farhan had really been in the organization long to have a strong opinion on Bart either way. It was probably just about taking best player available and letting things work themselves out later.
Eh, the names on the back dont look that bad.

Definitely possible.
Just saw a prediction that THIS is the year Belt breaks out and his 20 HRs and only 127 slumpy shoulders.

Finally.

well good. Because if you were complaining about Belt and his 18 ish homers, imagine when Bart takes over and hits none and his defense is not even as close as Belt's. Thread will be fire!

But will he have one half of an all star season baseball, and one good season where his best ability is getting walks?

Bart not hitting a single homerun last season is definitely concerning. But to me, his defense is not. If I was to rank positions on the field where defense matters the least, I would put first base right above left field and pitcher. I'm so tired of defensive first basemen. First base is the easiest defensive position on the infield.

I seriously doubt Bart is ever going to be their starting 1B anyway. Either he becomes their starting C or he gets moved in my opinion. Just like Buster his true value will be behind the plate. My guess is he gets traded at some point but time will tell.

As for defense, sure 1B is the easiest defensive position in the infield but a great defender can still save a ton of errors from his teammates and a lot of unearned runs. But, the most important thing for me from my 1B is to hit for power. By power I mean a high OPS.

Agreed with this. I will add that I think picking balls in the dirt is a skill very easily perfected. It used to drive me nuts hearing people say "JT Snow saves as many runs as power hitting first basemen create." Yeah, no. A lot of people assume that a ball a great first baseman picks wouldn't be picked by an average first baseman.

Anyway, your post is good. I agree.

Your hate for Belt is hilarious, considering hes been our top offensive producer over the last 8 seasons. You say nothing about Crawford, when hes been worse.

I dont want to speak for skeet, but IMO, Belt gets more hate because he plays a premium offensive position and Crawford does not. Also, Crawford has been a better defensive shortstop than Belt has been an offensive first baseman. And (your favorite argument), Belt is injury prone and Crawford has been largely healthy his entire career.

Both shouldnt be on the team very long, but thats what I see as the huge difference between the two.

I think Belt gets more hate because of his body language. Its not like everyone hated JT Snow when he was putting up worse offensive numbers at 1B from 2001-2005.

Crawford is just Mr. Cool Guy who grew up a Giants fan, so he could hit .180 and the fans would give him a pass. Belt is awkward and pouts after called 3rd strikes, so people dismiss his contributions.

The fact remains that without Belt's 18th inning HR in Washington, there's a decent chance we dont win that WS, so no Giants fan should ever hate him.
