2024 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

He may pitch again in 2025 but who knows for sure if he'll be as good. The Giants don't spend like the Padres, Dodgers and Yankees so if they sign Ohtani then that's probably it. All thye would be doing is replacing Pedersen with Ohtani. That won't add much. Ohtani isn't Barry Bonds. He won't hit 50 HRs in SF.

I'm not sure I agree. Ohtani is a superstar and the face of baseball. Adding a guy like Ohtani would make other players want to play in SF. I would argue what Ohtani does when a DH and SP far exceeds anything a regular player does. Plus the giants dont have any star that makes fans want to pay to watch them play. As evidence by the empty seats all last year despite what that one poster gaurenteed wouldn't happen. lol

Having said that if you offered me these two choices:

1. Ohtani and nothing else
2. Yamamoto, Lee and Chapman

I will take option 2 all day. The giants need way more than just Ohtani.

Would be hilarious. The Angels for doubling down on the strategy that has netted them zero success, and Ohtani for taking the Mike Trout route and prioritizing comfort and familiarity over winning.

Ohtani is an outlier and should have his own budget separate from the rest of the roster.

I don't think many fans in the US understand how the Ohtani signing will bring an entire fanbase to whatever team he signs with.

The merchandising and licensing associated with becoming THE team of an entire country offsets a large amount of his contract.
It is a given that japanese broadcasters will be signing a contract for broadcast rights to all games with the new team.

There are many articles that go into the revenue generation that is directly attributed to Ohtani

This article estimates $337* million was generated in 2022 alone due to Ohtani

Passan will likely be the first one to break the news.

Per John Morosi, Ohtani is en route to Toronto today. No deal signed officially.
