I would've been more upset if they grabbed Ohtani for cheap.

The problem I have with the "Ohtani for $70M a year wouldn't solve our problems...I'd rather spread the money out" crew is that there is a major assumption that we will actually bring in free agents instead.
When we give $275M to Matt Chapman and Harrison Bader, and we are bored all 2024 season again, remember this day.

This is stupid on 2 counts. One the Dodgers didn't need him to bring in fans. They already draw well. Two they've had a loaded lineup for years and have one wprld series title to show for it. That was in the shortened Covid year. Baseball isn't like basketball where one star can make a huge difference. There's also no guarantee that he'll be the same in 2025 when he starts pitching again.
Good news for Giants fans. Now the Giants can concentrate on other free agents that they have a better chance of signing.
Who's coming off major injury that we can make a 1 year offer on?
Those are the Giants targets, dudes who are broken that can be long shots at bargain prices.

I enjoyed watching Bonds when he was with the Giants but he was a much better hitter than Ohtani. Problem is they still couldn't win a world series. Ohtani has averaged about 116 games per year. He's averaged 41 HR per year the last 3 years but that's in Anaheim. I doubt he would do that in SF Maybe 35 per year. Lifetime BA is .274.
As a pitcher he's got a 3.01 ERA and a 1.08 Whip. Not a huge SO pitcher but certainly better than average. Overall I'd say he's better as a pitcher than as a hitter when compared to us peers. Will he be able to continue doing both as he ages or will they ask him to do just one?

It's always the same guys that act relieved after every failed signing

Sorry Catch, this is stupid. He/we would have won one if the best bullpen in baseball didn't choke.

I think he is worth it for the Dodgers because they have the other pieces. 700 million for the Giants would have been too much because they still would have to spend to be competitive.
For 700M the Giants can sign Bellinger, Lee, and Yamamoto which makes them a playoff contender. Farhan needs to get it done NOW!
