Okay so because Sasaki is 23 vs 25 (like Yamamoto was), he is limited to a minor league contract and to what teams have in the international salary pool. So he's not getting the mega $300m contract.... yet.

The most international money available is $2.5M for a single team and that team that has the most is, of course, the Dodgers. Go figure.

So he's taking the Ohtani route, making a major bet on himself and jumping ship now. Makes sense. Dodgers going to be loaded again next year, get on board now and win a ring then cash in on a big deal. We are heading into the dark ages as Giants fans it seems.

Here we go again.

If I was in charge of our front office, I would throw a HUGE contract offer at Kyle Tucker, not Soto. While Soto is a better hitter, Tucker is a better baseball player. Soto is brutal in the outfield, and Tucker is good. Tucker's contract would probably be for substantially less than Soto's also.

go for speed, glove and fielding. those skills can be more easily had on the market than superstar sluggers. pitching and defense.

And to me, thats Tucker. His average stats over the past 3 seasons (really 2.5 because he missed half the season in 2024):

.275 average
.878 OPS
145 OPS+
27 HRs
89 RBIs
22 SBs
While playing GG caliber defense.

If you compare those numbers to Soto's, they arent THAT far off. Soto is clearly the better offensive player, but he isnt worth hundreds of millions more than Kyle Tucker.

He's not a star. Soto is younger and a true middle of the order bat.

I like your logic though, I think in a pure baseball sense, it works. He would be pricey but soto could be north of $500m... I am very curious what kind of contract he gets. He does seem like a Giant-type of player.

maybe that is why every team in the playoffs had a star or multiple. lmao

What about bat and hitting?

He isnt a superstar but he is absolutely a star. He has been an All Star each of the last 3 years, and was getting MVP votes in 3 straight years prior to 2024. I dont see how Tucker isnt a middle of the order hitter. The numbers suggest he is.

But yeah in terms of my logic, he is going to probably make around $30m a season for his next contract. That is a much better deal than $40-50m a year that Soto will get, and the difference in value would be substantially smaller than the difference in price.

I have seen rumors that we will be in on Willy Adames. Now, I understand we need a shortstop, but is Willy a player you would throw $200m at? I would much rather throw an additional $100m at a player like Tucker.

Anyway, thats my rant for now. I am all in on Kyle Tucker this offseason, and hope we make a strong push for him.

Show me were speed, glove and fielding won a ring in the last decade. All the playoff teams had stars and could hit. Tampa is as close as you can come but they big time young talented hitters. And they lost.

Its stupid to say you can win without people that mash.

EDIT: Tucker not even a free agent this year so wtf are we talking about?

i wouldn't be mad if we signed tucker thats for sure. Soto shouldn't even be on our radar, we shouldnt even be discussing him.

So take Soto out, I like Tucker. But is he getting 30 HRs at Oracle Park or even close? I dont know.

$200m for Adames seems like a crazy idea. His defense is declining. He's .250 hitter with a high variance. 20-30 HRs but hits in one of the hitter friendliest parks for HRs and has a lotta strike outs. I say PASS.

Ha-Seong Kim is a free agent. The dodgers got the japanese players cornered, why dont we go after the Koreans and be a pipeline for them?

I can almost gaurantee Ha-Seong Kim will be a giant, we look like the favorites to do so... No way we sign Adames.

It's the better and smarter decision.
