Yankees, Cubs, Phillies and Giants involved in talks. Ask yourself who lands him? lol

Being average in strike outs hurts more when your lineup lacks good hitters. When your lineup only has a few feared hitters, teams don't have to pitch around anyone. And when your best hitters strike out a lot, it makes it worse. Look at the projected lineup a few pages back...you can literally go after any hitter aggressively because you don't fear the person behind them. Chapman for example. Ok stats, but strikes out a ton. 158 SOs and if you watch the games, many in important spots. Which is why he only had 78 RBIs. And I showed last year he got more fastballs in the middle of the plate than any hitter and still struck out that many times.

It is crazy that hitters now hit .240 and people are saying they are great.

Chapman is a great player and a lot of that is in the field and on the bases.

Bye bye, Thairo. Was such a disappointment in 2024 after a pretty good 2023.

he was solid in 2022 + 2021 also, if you are being honest. Played way above his potnetial.

Well, if the rumored Yankee offer is Luis Gil and Ben Rice as a starting point, we are going to have to be really aggressive in our offer. I assume Kyle Harrison HAS to be included, and I wouldnt mind that at all.

The thing is, the Giants are arguably among the worst farm systems in baseball currently (BR has us last), and the Yankees are also among the worst. But for the Yankees to include the 2024 ROY, we are going to have to part with some of our top of the farm rankings players. I dont know that we have what it would take to get him, but I would empty the farm for him. Its not like we could get much worse than our already one of the worst rankings in baseball.

not a good move imo. trade you empty out your farm to do what? if you want to make a splash, sign a FA. you don't need to give up prospects to do that.

Our farm system is absolutely terrible. As long as Eldridge isnt included, I wouldnt mind trading anyone for elite players.

A career .241 hitter averaging 80 RBIs a season is not a great player. He's a good player. I think you need to go look at players in the HOF and compare stats.

you're doing what you did in the past. you isolate his hitting stats, and say that's the be all end all. there is more to playing the game than hitting. you spend more time on the field and on the bases than you do in the box. this guy can be in a slump and still generating war. that's why he's a lot more than JD davis.

his war last season for example was 7th (position players). between soto and lindor. he makes a fraction.

He runs the bases well and plays good defense. He's not great. Great players are superstars. He is not that. He's a good player. He isn't a HOF player. If he isn't HOF, and he's great, what adjective describes HOF players then?
I see you mention his MVP votes a lot. Pablo Sandoval had a good year and had MVP votes. Pablo Sandoval is not a great player.

Pablo Sandoval won me a fantasy league one year because no one researched him enough to know he was eligible at catcher that year! Great player!

Just kidding. I agree with you completely. To say Matt Chapman is a "great" player is a huge stretch. If he is a top 4 player on your team, your team isnt going to be a serious contender.

soto and lindor are great. if he wants to hang around those guys on war i'll take it.

Everyone will take him on our team. And his contract is pretty good given the current market. But that doesn't mean he's great. He's a good player. There is nothing wrong with being as good player.

I agree except you can't compare hitters today with the greats of the past. Like I said in my other post, the pitching is different with the constant changes that prevents hitters form seeing a pitcher for the 3rd or 4th time when hs arm is tired. I grew up in an era when if you couldn'y hit over .235 or .240 you weren't starting and probably not in the majors. It's why I don't like to compare players from differnet eras. Sports evolve and rules change. Ballpark dimensons are generally smaller

I don't love the game the way it's played today but it is what it is for now.
