Giants signed Joey Lucchesi to a 1 year $1.5m minor league deal. Check and mate.

he whooped our a$$ in 2022 with the Mets. Remember that game, Polar Bear went deep to straight away CF.

The novelty of Justin Verlander pitching in a Giants uniform will be interesting, for about 6 starts until he gets hurt or starts getting smashed and has to move to the bullpen. Other than that we all know how this season is going to turn out. Signing Adames was something, but hes not a superstar. Hes not going to change the fortunes of the team.

We'll win 84 games, finish outside the WC race, and the Dodgers will win 105+.

Unfortunately the Giants are caught in a tough spot. No superstar is going to sign here until were competing with LA, and we can't compete with LA without signing superstars like they do. The only other option is drafting insanely well and building a team of homegrown stars, which is very unlikely.

Completely aree, this FA period has been disappointing overall. FZ did much more last year with Lee/Soler/Chap/Snell.
Gonna be another rough season lol.
It's terrible that the Dodgers are accumulating so much talent but we need to look back over the last few years. They've been doing this for quite some time and they have one legit WS title to show for it. The same with the Yankees. Baseball players have up and down years so the best team doesn't always win. We saw that when the Giants won 3 in 5 seasons. They were never favored. They won mostly with great pitching and some guys having career years.
There is a lot of backlash towards fans complaining about the dodgers. The most typical response is don't blame the dodgers, blame the other cheap owners who don't spend. And to establish a spending floor cap. While I am for that, it does not solve the dodgers. You can't knock a team if they got ridicously outbid. Also, if you are a player and the dodgers offer you a s**t ton of money knowing you are going to win, and another team offers you a s**t ton, you likely choose the dodgers. Money plus winning is better than just money. They have created an environment where the only chance a team has is to offer way over market value on a player which will likely f**k that team in the future. Its a bad spot to be in.

it's rigged. dodgers had lousy owners so mlb took control of the team, and handed the storied franchise to better owners. now i don't see mlb take control of the A's. but these sports will take over ownership if they feel it's in the 'best interest'. this is by design mlb wants dodgers v yankees. only thing that can push back is a fan revolt or losing interest.

they are on the cutting edge of the rules as well. pushing every envelope. giants could have been more savvy and done the deferred money, anyone could do that. everyone else lagging behind or dont have the courage to think differenty, try things that havent been done.

The only reason I would support a floor cap is owners are pocketing money without spending it on the team. And some are getting revenue on top from other teams.

Really needs a cap like the NFL After the dodgers and Mets completely overspent on Ohtani and Soto and ruined the market, not sure how the other owners wouldn't want that. Its not like superstar contracts get cheaper.

i don't know if the deferrals make a lot of sense unless you are signing guys like they are signing guys. what's the benefit of kicking some flores dollars down the road?

deferred money, less counting toward current year payroll, less money going to tax vs going to actual players on the active roster
