it's paying homage to more than just the Dead. In the late 1960s to early 1970s, SF was an epicenter for new music (Jefferson Airplane, Sly & The Family Stone Santana...) The city has had a rich musical history up until the turn of the century, when many artists were starting to be pushed out of the bay.

No matter how you serve mediocrity, it rears its ugly head. If it wasn't for "excuse me" couple of 3 run bombs, they'll be sitting at below .500 despite great pitching.

We seriously need to develop a superstar hitter or two. Perhaps three.

We've been saying that for years and years. They're hoping Ramos will become one and maybe Eldrige. The Reds have some really good pitching and the Giants bats are cold as the evening fog in SF. Let's see what happens when they go to Philly and Yankee Stadium. Both places are hitters parks.

My guess is the jerseys and hats will be a big hit with the younger crowd. I like them better than the orange and white ones they wore last season.
If this is your guess, then the designers completely missed the mark. This is supposed to pay homage to the Grateful Dead......a band that the younger crowd likely has no idea who they are.
It's not just the Dead. It's an homage to the city history of having a lot of great bands come out of the area. It's also an homage to the NY Giants who had purple in their colors in the early 1900s. The glove patch replicates the poster art that became famous in the 60s and is now highly collectable. Young kids will like the purple.
I wouldn't want to see them wear these everyday (which they won't) but as a city connect that is worn just a few times it's fine. It may be over the top for somepeole but the city of SF is over the top. Always has been. The unis reflect a lot about the history of the team and the city. A lot of thought went into the design. It wasnt just thrown together.

Some over reactions going on I see. The last two games the pitching was great and the bats came up short. Happens. Even the dodgers dropped a few. 8-1 was great but you can't expect that pace as sustainable.

Yes, but more so is who you sign, trade for and how much you are willing to spend. Besides Bonds and selected few who don't want to come here, there is no such thing as a homerun hitter in Oracle Park. Bonds for his part was not only homerun hitter.
If you have three (Chapman, Adames and Ramos) hitting .230 and projected to be the RBI boppers, The rest of the lineup has to be hitting closer to .300 than .200 And the only one they may have right now is Lee. Why they haven't developed a single guy like that in the last at least 10 years. Otherwise, signing, trading and keeping those consistently getting on base up and down lineup, hitting around .300 requires much more money the Giants' brass is willing to spend.

Exactly. No team has ever played .750 baseball for an entire season. Eventually you have a losing streak that offsets a winning streak. It's early and some players are still trying to find their batting stroke. I still like what I see from the defense this year with a healthy Lee in center, and a confident Ramos in left. Wade and Schmitt give them good D at first. Chapman is a gold glover at 3rd and Adames looks better at shirt than I expected.
I didn't expect to see much difference in the hitting this other than Yaz and Flores maybe bouncing back after having injury plagued seasons last year. Iwas hoping for better defense and pitching which we've seen so far.

Yaz looks like he doesn't like the idea of being depth. He isn't giving that up and we need it.

Maybe it's because he never got a shot with the Orioles and was probably wondering if he would ever become a starter. Once he got traded to SF he's shown he belongs both in the field and at the plate. Not a high average hitter but he does hit an occasional HR and gets some big hits.
I always have a soft spot for players who aren't the top prospects and have to work hard to make it to the bigs. They usually have great attitude once they get there because of the work they had to put in.
