Buster is my 3rd all time giant, behind bonds and bumgarner.

Buster might be back, I get the feeling Bart is getting dealt for a top arm
Bart has to really go out and have a big year in the minors and then produce some at the major league level to get a top pitching prospect back. It will be interesting to see how both Bailey and Bart do this season and what Zaidi eventually decides to do with them.

It's starting to seem like the Giants might extend Posey another year or two, trade Bart, and wait for Bailey. Still early, but Posey seems revitalized. Pressure is on Bart to make a jump this year.

Bart can just as easily be the starting 1B next season too...

I just dont see this happening. Bart's value is behind the plate and not at 1B. Its not like he is a great slugger who is a bad defensive catcher.

That's not really true. There's tons of good defensive catchers, the reason he was picked high in the draft was b/c of his bat.

that was then. I think John's point is he's not going to the be that great slugger based off what we've seen. So if he's a good catcher, he's still a solid prospect. But moving him to first base where he wouldnt be an elite defender, and wouldnt be a great slugger wouldn't be the smart move.

He wasn't drafted to be a 1B though. If they think he isn't going to pan out as a C, their best option is to trade him as a C now before teams realize the same thing.

I get your thinking, but you all are judging him based on very very little playing time.

Exactly. I thought this was pretty obvious. Bart has very little value at 1B. He was drafted 2nd because he was an elite catching prospect who had power. If he played 1B in college there is no way he would have been taken that high.

We have to hope that he has a great season. If that happens his trade value will skyrocket and hopefully the Giants can either get an elite arm back or have him be their everyday catcher next season. I do believe a trade is the most likely scenario with Posey sticking another year or two and Bailey being the catcher of the future. But time will tell.

As you are if you think he can "easily be the starting 1B next season". There is just nothing to base this on.

well considering Belt has hit over .300 literally once in his whole career, it's not much to replace.
I do, however, think a trade wouldn't surprise me since he wasn't taken by Z.
Guess who shaved? lol he looks really weird..

This. Trade him. He doesn't strike me to be athletic enough to transition over to 1B. A trade is the best route

lol this narrative that Belt is not a quality starting 1B is absolutely ridiculous. If he hit .300+ every year he'd be a superstar. Thats not the standard of expectation at 1st.

Belt has literally been the most productive offensive player on the Giants for the last EIGHT years. More than Pence, more than Sandoval, more than Crawford, and even more than Posey. Hes an above average defender, he gets on base, he has power that has been stifled by the right field graveyard at our home stadium, just like every lefty on the team who isn't named Barry Bonds.

Its just lazy, misguided analysis from most Giants fans who hold Belt to a standard they dont hold anyone else to.
