2024 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

As a kid, I was a hardcore baseball fan... as an adult, I catch an inning or two if I'm bored. Some teams have pulled me in though, especially if we have good pitching. I used to never miss a Schmidt start, for example. Of course the legend Timmy was must watch, as was that entire staff

From a casual fan PoV, this team doesn't seem to have any guys that move the needle... position player, or pitcher. Is there someone I'm missing?

This is correct. There isnt a single player on this team that casual fans would specifically seek out to watch.

I'm with you RN. I think that this team, while scrappy and has that fight in them, will eventually succumb to the lack of overall talent on the team.

99, I know we hovered around .500 last season, but I still think that has to do with the fact that the length of the season didnt offer enough time for things to right themselves.

I agree, but then we got Posey back and bolstered the pitching staff, so I think were better than last years team.

Those would be superstars, which don't exactly grow on trees. That could change with Luciano.

Farhan did a great job getting pitching talent on the cheap. I think the Giants are going to sign some big time hitters in the off season when they have money to spend.

who is going to be available?

Posey is probably my favorite SF giants so I am watching him as much as possible.
Even though he has underperformed, I still like that we tried for Harper (and Stanton) to get a player that fans would come to watch

I mean, I agree Posey one of if not my favorite Giants ever. But he isnt a player that people other than you and I would seek out to watch.

Is that not what Sac was asking?

Agree. But baseball is so regional it doesn't matter. I don't watch another teams, just highlights.

What's the expectations this year?

Most people in here have higher expectations than I. And the Giants have started off better than any of us could have expected. I had the Giants around a 70 win team. Most have them around an 81.

Was just talking to my dad about Schmidt, and how a change of scenery can work great for some guys, I recall Schmidt not doing amazing in Pit. I would listen to his starts on the radio every time. We've been pretty lucky to have a solid group of Aces the past 20 years. Ortiz,Schmidt, Cain,Timmy,Bum

Castellanos

To me, I would go big on Freddie Freeman or Corey Seager

Same, I'm definitely putting all my chips on the table for Seager 1st.
The former prospect who nearly lost his hand due to a diving catch injury for the giants, a former top IFA signing... Gustavo Cabrera has passed away due to complications with covid. 25 years old. Per baggarly.

Sad....
Gausman isn't a Tim Lincecum or Matt Cain but he's pretty good
