Jury is still out for me. I like how he is managing a team that isnt loaded with talent though. I still question if this style will work with a great team.

What's wrong with his style, specifically?

Inconsistency with lineups, desire to platoon everywhere, handling of starters (which I admit has sort of been different in the last couple of weeks), etc. I said earlier that this style works great with a team that isnt incredibly talented, but I question if it can with a great team.

Or, I wonder if his style will deter big name free agents from coming here. Like, if I am a left handed pitcher who his .320 hitter against righties but .260 against lefties, and I am going to sit against lefties because there is a bench player who hits .285 against lefties, there is a good chance I am not signing with the Giants and am signing with a team I can play most of the games. Thats my concern.

I think you are just looking for things to be concerned with Steve. He is doing a great job now with the players he has. Enjoy it. Players will come to the Giants if they are winning and will pay the big bucks. Trust Farhan!

I am enjoying it. I love when teams come out of nowhere and play over projections. Makes for a great time. But I still cannot put all my faith in Kapler and Farhan. I'd like to, but cant yet.

Farhan has done everything right to this point. Tremendous international signings, solid drafts, amazing pick ups of players at the major league level at bargain basement prices, and getting the team competitive without prematurely spending on big money free agents.

In Farhan I trust! Wouldnt trade him for any other Pres/GM in baseball (other than perhaps Andrew Friedman)

  1. I think Kapler has done a great job this year and last. I will say that upfront. And I hope (and think it will) continue.
  2. but I echo steve's comment. In philly, its well documented he made some decisions based on analytics that frustrated players. He did it with Nola. He did it with Franco, and he did it with Hoskins for example. So steve's and my point has been if he continues to move big name players based on analytics, that could impact who wants to play in SF. And you want your big stars in the lineup unless its a rest day for example. Some of those starts missed 50-60 games under him. Thats a lot. That is our point.
  3. but I do think he's more than likely learned from all of that and hopefully isnt an issue moving forward.
  4. I dont have any concerns with Farhan though.
