Remember the last time we were in first place? 2016 All-Star break. On top of the MLB world, and we did nothing but choke it away the entire 2nd half. Limped into the playoffs because of our crap pen.

As someone who has family from Chicago, it infuriates me knowing that if we had a closer in 2016, the Cubs would currently be on year 113 without a World Series. I truly believe this.

You truly believe it because its 100% true.

Then again, if we had a closer, we wouldnt have blown 337 games in the 2nd half of the season, so we might have been matched up with a different team. But yeah.

3 different 2B as well.

The fact that we had FOUR quality bullpen arms that not only lasted for a 6 year span, but were all absolutely lights out in 3 different postseason runs is incredible. Totally unheard of.

The core 4 had a combined 1.33 ERA across 67.2 innings pitched in our 3 title runs. Affeldt, Lopez, Romo, and Casilla only gave up 10 ER in 67.2 innings.

To put that in perspective, Bumgarner pitched 88.1 innings in our 3 title runs, and he allowed 21 ER.
