2024 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

Baseball HOF process kinda is weird tho

I think Buster should get in, if you start looking at the numbers analytically (there was a segment a while back on MLB network about it) he is top for a catcher.

If looking at it through an old school lens (which most voters do) Buster's resume may be lacking.

he'll get in no doubt, but 1st ballot?

Way over analyzing here gents, Buster will be in the HOF.
I was traveling yesterday when I found out. Sucks. He's my favorite Giant ever who also played my favorite position. Insert goat emoji
I'm not crying, you're crying.

Look, I agree with you he is a Hall of Famer. I believe his resume is strong enough. The point John and I are trying to make is that Posey's case is exponentially further away from a lock than you do.

Jorge Posada wasn't the reason the Yankees won those rings, which is a big difference. Posey was the QB of the Giants, carrying them offensively AND as the guy commanding the pitching staff. Its not about stats with players like Posey, who was the best at his position in the game during his era.

I understand the point you and John are making, I just totally disagree. Peter Gammons said yesterday that he's going to the Hall of Fame. Like I said, some guys just have the legacy to get elected without the voters nitpicking the stats. Baggarly even said before 2021 he wasn't sure if Posey was a lock for the Hall, but after the way he capped his career by becoming the best catcher in the game again, even after the hip and shoulder surgeries, he is going to go in.

There are so many fans outside the west coast markets who never really saw his career, and are downplaying him because of stats. Anyone who witnessed how great he was, and how much he transformed this organization from a long time loser to a winner knows hes an easy HOFer. The voters pay enough attention to understand that. His spotless reputation will prevent any spite voters from leaving him off their ballot.

Hope all the voters feel this way bc he's definitely 1st ballot HOF imo but voters can be ridiculous sometimes.
He was the orchestrator of elite pitching staffs and for awhile was a core offense piece to championship teams. That being said, injuries sapped his offense in the middle of his career.

I don't know what to say, but he has been the best catcher in baseball since he arrived, I don't think there is any doubt about it.

I think he could be a HOFer, but if he doesn't get it I would understand it too. I don't know about first ballot though, that seems like a stretch. How many first ballot HOFers have there been? Edit: 57.

All class, competitor and the consummate professional. Thanks for the memories and help bring in 3 rings!

lol of all your asinine, pie-in-the-sky optimistic takes over the years, THIS is where you get skeptical? With a clear Hall of Fame Giant who you witnessed first hand? No Giants fan should complacently "understand" if Posey doesn't make the HOF. He deserves to be there, and will be there. Numbers be damned, he was THE guy at catcher in this era, and led the charge to 3 titles while being elite on both offense and defense at a position where its rare to see someone who is consistently elite at even one of those aspects.

If Buster Posey isn't a Hall of Famer it'll be a crime. I genuinely believe the writers will get it right.

Bochy and Buster were the true centerpieces of those WS Championships. GOATS

I wouldnt accept it but I am afraid its possible that he will have voters who will be skeptical and not vote for him based on the numbers and years played. That is just based on some past history. Does Buster deserve to be in? Hell yes. In the end, I dont think he will make it on a first ballot but after thinking about it more I do think he will make it. He was just too valuable at the plate, in the field, and in the clubhouse for a 3 time champion to be left out. But, dont be shocked if it takes a couple of years.

I dont think you can talk about those WS championships and not include MadBum as a true centerpiece. He was 4-0 with an era of a ridiculous 0.25 and pretty much won the 2014 WS on his own.

The best player on the 2010 team that started the run was Tim Lincecum. I will never forget game 1 NLDS complete game shutout 2 hits 14K . Our only run that game was Buster. He was caught stealing second but somehow called safe. He later came around to score. 1-0 victory. By 2012 Tim was in the pen, Cain was the ace. By 2014 Cain was toast and Bum was the ace. The constant through it all was Posey. I'd be irritated if he is not a first ballot HOF.
