I could be wrong, but I don't see it happening. I love Semien.
Semien is one of the best FAs available. Would be a dream to get him. But some team is gonna over pay for his services, and I don't blame them. Signing LaStella is fine and I'm happy they did, but he is just an OK player. Definitely could be depth. He will be the everyday 2nd baseman for us though.
Maybe he would take a bit of a hometown discount? After all he would be joining not just a hometown team but a contender we won 107 last year for crying out loud.
A hometown discount with CA taxes makes zero sense. I think people forget this is a job to them. And when you make millions a year, you can live where you want and fly there when you want.
I'm different and would prefer Seager and plug him at 2nd but it's just me. But I think he's going to get a massive deal tho

I'd be pumped with Seager as well.
Isnt Seager ALWAYS hurt?
6 seasons. 3 of them he played 135-150 games. The other 3 he played 60-95 games. Like Belt but younger.
Belt averages 140 games a season for his career (minus 2011 where he was up and down to the minors, and 2020 that wasn't a real season). Seager averages 111. Belt is Cal Ripken Jr. compared to Seager. lol

Seager has missed substantial time in 2 of his 5 seasons (using your stipulations). Belt has missed substantial time in 4 of his 9 seasons.
Sound pretty similar to me.

The Giants have elevated longtime bullpen catcher Taira Uematsu to their full-time coaching staff. He is the first major league coach in history who was born and raised in Japan and is a native speaker of the language. 🇯🇵

Seager was hit in the wrist by a pitch this past year, but every injury before that was some kind of chronic strain type issue.
Almost every single injury in Belt's career has been from being hit by a ball. Plus his appendicitis. He doesn't just pull up lame all the time. Its been bad luck.

Availability is availability, and unavailability is unavailability. There is a difference in type of injuries, but ultimately does it really matter? To me it doesnt (unless we are talking about a chronic knee injury a la Javon Kinlaw).

It matters when deciding who to pay, just based on predictability. Belt basically only gets hurt when fluke things happen. Seager hurts himself just running around, which will likely keep happening. Unless pitchers are secretly trying to injure Belt, his issues aren't as likely to happen again as Seagers are. Seager will also be way more expensive, so the risk is much higher.

He deserves it. Plus it might help them land Suzuki.

To replace Ron Wotus, who retired late in the season, the Giants promoted assistant coach Mark Hallberg to third base coach. Hallberg's position was taken by Taira Uematsu, who had spent the previous 14 seasons as a bullpen catcher.
"Mark and Taira earned these promotions through their consistent work throughout these last two seasons," Kapler said in a statement. "Mark's attention to detail and selflessness makes him a great fit for the third base coaching role. Taira has been a contributing part of the Giants organization for many years, and he will now be able to make a larger impact in his new role as a Major League coach. His versatility and preparedness, as well as his established relationships with players and staff will make an immediate difference for us.

He does. And this awesome. I've seen that dude so many times and honestly thought being the bullpen catcher would be a dream job. I'd catch pens all day every day. lol

If only Bum was still here his wife could've taken Uematsu's spot. lol

No reason the Giants can't establish themselves as the MLB leader for Japanese and Korean leagues. Mariners got Ichiro. Angels got Shohei. We got Shinjo.
We need to step our game up here. Big League.

Yeah, but he chose the Angels because he wanted to live in LA. I guess nobody told him LA is a smog pit.

Giants' Farhan Zaidi on Seiya Suzuki: "He's a really good player. We've scouted him like a lot of teams have. We'll see what happens. We'll be in that OF market & adding another right-handed bat, particularly one that hits for power w/good at-bat quality, kind of fits our team."
