That sucks, Larry was a really knowledgeable and matter of fact personality. Most of the KNBR hosts are just providing fluff to fill air time, but LK always had legit insight.

Tough to say what is really going on. It continues a troubling trend, however. Mark Willard was let go as the night host at KNBR in October. Now, it's Larry and Rod Brooks. That makes three full-time on air hosts to be let go in less than six months. That's just on-air hosts. Who knows how many have been let go that filled behind-the-scenes roles at that station.

Why the cuts? Why these people? I worked in radio for many years and could say something flip like "that's radio." Part of it would be true. I never felt like was my job was safe when I worked in radio as a DJ and newsman. I felt like I could be let go at anytime, and nearly was at one point. That's just the way the radio industry works. At my very first radio job I was told by numerous co-workers that "you aren't very good unless you've been fired." That was, and still is, the industry. I saw a lot of great and talented people that I worked with get canned for one reason or another during my years in this business. It's one reason why I chose to leave the business in 1999. I just got tired of watching people around me, very talented people who I liked very much, get let go.

I have read some reports online that claim KNBR's ratings are down. I have absolutely no idea if this is true or not. I don't really think anyone does. Those numbers are highly confidential. While you might see reports of overall ratings, what's missing in those reports is the key target demographic, or the audience that the station is targeted towards. My guess, for KNBR at least, is that audience is men between the ages of 25-54. But that's just a guess on my part and nothing more.

I do have some THEORIES as to why these cuts have taken place. But they have absolutely no basis in fact. They are just theories. So, I'll keep those theories to myself.

My hope is that all three of these guys land on their feet and maybe come back to KNBR someday. We'll see. Time will tell.
If only Murph and Mac would be let go, KNBR would be in business!
