I am terrified that Farhan is turning this team into the Oakland A's. Yes, its great that we can get value out of guys that other teams dont find value in. Yes its great that we are able to compete with the Dodgers in the regular season in spite of the massive difference in talent. But when push comes to shove in the playoffs, the stars come out and win games for their teams. We dont have many of those.

I don't get A's vibes.

I get Tampa Bay Rays vibes. And that is mostly a complement. And the giants do spend money unlike the A's or Rays. I have always been amazed at how the Rays put teams together spending less and being competitive to really good. Incredible scouting. But they do usually come up short at the end. Which is what I have been talking about the last few days. I don't see how you can win the whole thing at the end with a couple of the Giants OFers, DH and OH depth currently on the roster. I do think Farhan values SP and does a great job finding it. I am not sold on his bargain basement hitter depth. The better hitters on the team were there before him.

All MLB teams must reduce their rosters by two players, to 26, by Monday. So curious to see which under .200 hitters go down.

Tampa Bay Rays is probably a better comparison. I agree with this post.

lol @ the fans who think we have an elite bullpen.

Numbers suggest we do

Outside Doval down the stretch last year, has there ever been a single RP in this pen that you trusted coming into a game since Kapler took over? I never feel confident or secure with a lead with these guys coming in the game. They may have solid overall numbers, but its like they take turns blowing the lead.

Before the Washington series this week, they had the #2 staff in baseball behind LA. So they are better than we think. But I agree that pretty much whoever comes in I'm nervous.

I will say Brebbia either had a great start or figured s**t out. He's been good this year.

I like Rodgers in his role. Can't stand McGee. Doval has elite stuff but needs experience.

Im cautiously optimistic when Doval comes into the game, but the rest terrify me.
Is anyone else pumped like me to see Rodon take on the Dodgers?

I'm always pumped to see Rodon. But I will curb my expectations based on the lineup. Run support might be an issue until the giants get normal.

They won 107 games and went 5 games in the first round against the most stacked team in baseball in the playoffs, losing by one run in game 5. In a season everyone expected 70 wins.

They've had one series in the playoffs so far under Farhan. There's no pattern of coming up short because of lack of stars.

Just because a pattern hasnt been established yet, doesnt mean one cant fear it happening.

I hope that Farhan leverages the stacked farm system and trade for stars. (kind of how he got kris bryant last year)

But i still think he should be more aggressive in free agency. This is a major market team.

Agreed, but I'd say it's pretty unreasonable to do so right now.

Reasonable or not, that's been my fear since last season not just now. LOL

Good thing i'm not too worried about your feelings.
This dude just hit 3 HRs in a game for sac

I remember y'all were absolutely dreading the idea of re-signing Kris Bryant. Now you want Farhan to sign all the big name free agents?

You can't have it both ways. We have the best FO in baseball, I don't think we will ever be the A's, the giants spend money smartly. See, Carlos Rodon. We are battling a lot of injuries and COVID right now and still in first. Things could be way worse.

I just read Yaz should be back soon, Longoria starting rehab assignment and LWJ coming back soon, help is on the way.

None of the big free agents from the off-season are killing it right now, almost all of the teams are likely experiencing buyers remorse.

Freddie Freeman, 32 LAD - .309, 3 HR...6 years $162m ($27/yr)
Trevor Story, 29 BOS - .217*, 0 HR...6 years $140 ($25m/yr)
Carlos Correa, 27 MIN - .256, 1 HR...3 yrs, $105m ($35m/yr)
Kris Bryant, 29 COL - .281, 0 HR..7 yrs, $182m ($26m/yr)
Nick Castellanos 30 PHI - .286 3 HR... 5 yrs, $100m ($20m/yr)
Marcus Semien 31 TEX - .206 1 HR... 7 yrs, $175m ($25m/yr)
Corey Seager, 28 TEX - .271 3 HR... 10 yrs, $325m ($32.5/yr)

These were essentially the top FA position players, nearly all of them were a very poor fit in terms of need. Kris Bryant was the closest one, although I personally wanted him back, it looks like letting him go was the right move at this point. The rest? Yikes... Semien/Seager/Storey all look like really bad deals.

This FO will do what needs to be done in terms of keeping/attracting the RIGHT talent.

Edit: fixed story and seagers BA
