I just hope the Giants were being realistic and knew they never had a great chance of signing Ohtani. Hopefully they were working on some other guys. Ohtani deferred much of his contract so the Dodgers can add players around him. What do they need to add? They already had one of the best lineups in the game and they still flop in the playoffs.

we lost out to the f**king blue jays
confirmed? hey I am on board, he's got some medical, and he's in the AL heck he's in another country, not wearing Dodger blue
a win is a win, this is a win
only thing confirmed is he's currently on a jet headed to Toronto. no announcement on a decision yet.
on this subject you got shark tanked:
Later Friday afternoon, it was revealed that Canadian entrepreneur Robert Herjavec of "Shark Tank" fame was on the private jet being tracked to Toronto, not Ohtani. The next day, Ohtani announced on social media that he was signing with the Dodgers

Source: The Giants met yesterday with pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He's got a lot of big market teams bidding for his services.

"In an effort to enable the Dodgers to continue spending around stars Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, Ohtani agreed to defer all but $2 million of his annual salary — $68 million of his $70 million per year — until after the completion of the contract. The deferred money is to be paid out without interest from 2034 to 2043."
I hope MLB vetoes the deal. This is breaking the spirit of the game and then some.
Technically legal doesn't mean it is good for the sport.

They are gonna make more than enough in sales (driven up because of ohtani) likely in the first few years to pay for that contract. Earn interest in it, and then just pay him whatever at the end
wild. Us small market teams can't compete with that

$680M deferred until the end of the contract. So, the whole "we wouldnt have been able to pay anyone else if we signed Ohtani" excuse is nothing more than that....an excuse for not signing him.

This is the kind of s**t super rich people do to get around estate and gift tax laws.
No interest despite a massive deferred balloon payment is bonkers.
A CBA for a "competitively balanced" sport getting abused like this is f**king nuts .

This is why baseball needs a salary cap.
