"Widely loved" didn't really occur until he became, respectfully speaking, hillside pate'-Kobe. It erased all of his unlike-ability. Myself included-ish-(adjacent).

I don't think they care about 7th or 8th seed, don't feel urgency. That combined with being worse with Drummond and DS.
They just made bad offseason moves and combine that with a tired, injured roster that hasn't played much together and you for a 1st or 2nd round exit this year.
