$11M a year in Kentucky is substantially more money than $11.5M a year in California.

Also 8.5M in Connecticut (UCONN new deal offer is 6 years 60m) is not a substantially less than 11.5M in California. California state tax is double of Conn. Factor in cost of living and you're probably even. Not worth uprooting your family. Lakers didn't give him a financial reason to move.

Lakers needed something like 6 year 90M deal.

Agreed. I saw a tweet earlier (cant find it now), but I think it said that the UCONN yearly salary would be half a million less after its all said and done.

i honestly think this would work, he needs someone he will listen to, respect and will cater to his thoughts on the team and tactics.

I really think he goes to where ever Bronny goes . I think some team he likes (Knicks , Lakers etc ) will reach for Bronny bc of the package deal .

yes and no is close being spot on.

the thing is the NBA has changed a lot revenue wise, cap wise, luxury taxes, how revenue is split between the league, than compared to t he 80s/90s.

the Lakers have been the Buss's main form of income as well. the big problem is that sometimes Jeanie is still living off our past history and thinks that everyone in league rather be a Laker than play anywhere else. holds true with some players, but not all anymore.

one of the big ways we attract players/coaches is by brining former legends to meetings, and most of these kids today barely know or even care that Kareem is there, or Magic, or Shaq, they aren't as awe struck as the FO wants them to be.

overall, we need to change our philosophy if we want to continue being a top franchise.

more money is going to have to be spent, not just on players but from the janitor to the coaching staff/scouts. especially now since you got the Clippers who aren't a s**t show anymore. Rams came back and won a SB, now you got JH with the Chargers, Dodgers are always a draw as well (especially now). Before Lakers ruled the town for 20-30 years, outside of the Trojans back in the early 2000s.
There is 1% chance Lebron leaves Lakers. I expect him to sign his last contract of his NBA career (either a 2 or 3 year) max contract.

Yea - Lakers is still a massive brand in the NBA but you gotta keep adding to it and handle it with more care.

Also think - you can't hire your friends and ppl you know well for the highest positions on the team. You're picking from such a small pool of candidates when you do that. That s**t may have worked back then - but it's not the same NBA.

After Dan Hurley debacle - if Jeanie was serious - she'd fire Pelinka and hire someone like Bob Myers and let him build a FO team and hire a coach. But she trust Pelinka. No bc he's a good GM - but she trusts him bc he'll be loyal to her.
