Well at least they cant blame Westbrook for this loss. How can you possibly lose to Portland who didnt have Lillard or any of the guys they traded CJ for. Pretty shocking.

I'm not sure what happened to be honest. I caught the game well into the 2nd half.

I hate using terms like "focus" and "energy" because these are completely subjective and non-quantifiable factors but that being said, it really looks like nobody on the Lakers even cares.

There was a key sequence in the 4th when AD let himself get stripped out of great position by Nurkic when he had a 1 on 1 from baseline. Then when the Lakers inbounded the ball AD does a lazy hand off to THT that gets stripped and Simons comes down and buries a 3. I think they were down 1 at the time.

Another time LeBron, though he played amazing again, had a big TO on a fast break when they could've tied it. Just way too many TOs, pointing to a lack of "focus."

Vogel needs to go. Bradley played 36 minutes. This has to be a joke.
Maybe blame the GM. He has old guys like Westbrook, Howard, Jordan, and Bazemore on the roster instead of guys who can shoot and could have been a fit alongside AD and Lebron. In my opinion this team needs youth, energy, and shooting. I see you criticize Vogel a lot but doesnt Pelinka deserve just as much, if not more, of the blame?

It's definitely a poorly constructed team. I'm not sure who's to blame. LeBron is an amazing player but if he had something to do with this roster construction he carries some of the blame as well. It's 2 offseasons in a row now where the front office has made literally every wrong move.

Pelinka and Lebron. He's the one who spearheaded the Westbrook deal when there was a better deal on the table

Isnt it pretty much known that Pelinka wanted Buddy Hield and LeBron wanted Russ, so they went with Russ?

Thats a weak GM then unless Jeannie insisted that they go with RW. And, did Lebron or Pelinka ever come out and say that? I must have missed it.

GM does deserve some blame - but imo HC deserves the more blame bc he didn't optimize lineups for Russ or for anyone for that matter. It's not some ingenious plan to play Russ - Lebron - AD with 2 shooters (Monk and Ellington). Yes - defense will be bad but it has been bad with Bradley and Jordan as well.

Vogel's philosophy is - play great defense and let Lebron and AD score enough pts. But, with this roster - the philosophy was supposed to be - go balls out on offense and let Lebron and AD make defensive plays in the 4th to win games.

AD and Lebron said on media day - they'd be starting at C and PF only for Vogel to say - we will see. DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard have started 30 games.

Second obvious thing - Avery Bradley shouldn't be in rotation - he has started 40 games.

Third obvious thing - Monk should have been starting from get-go. As a starter - 18ppg. Off bench - 10ppg. (Only 17 starts out of 49 active games)

Fourth obvious thing - THT is a on-ball player. Vogel has played him off ball shooter on the wing lol

Fifth obvious thing - Austin Reaves - high basketball IQ - better passer, defender and more instinctive player than Bradley.

There are more things but these are not on the GM. This is on HC. Yes - GM deserves some blame - Jordan, Rondo, and Bradley were all poor signings and everyone knew that. I give him pass on Dwight - Ariza - and Bazemore bc all 3 at least looked like they belonged in the NBA last season.

...and Pelinka is hardly a weak GM. He has Jeanie's back and was Kobe's agent. Kobe was not known for suffering fools or weaklings. Lebron has a big say in things but he doesn't have final say. He wanted Lue as HC - so that's that.

Thank God they didn't do the Buddy deal. Instead of stuck for 2 years with Westbrook - they'd be stuck for 3 years with Buddy...bc Vogel would have let Buddy ride the bench for not playing defense.

Looking back - better option would have been to bring last year's team back and they could have made some deals right now. But, hindsight is always 20-20.

4ML, this loss aside, it's obvious Westbrook is a huge part of the problem. He just isn't a good basketball player.

Anthony Davis took 11 shots in 41 minutes with no Westbrook in the game. Davis has to be more aggressive on offense.

I agree with you that Westbrook has been a part of the problem. I don't believe he is the biggest problem. My honest genuine opinion. Doesn't mean Lakers shouldn't move Westbrook this summer.

Not some earth-shattering trade and may not make a huge difference for this year - but gives them couple of wings who can shoot - something they can badly use. Could be a solid trade that helps them next year though - and really like the idea of having Cam Reddish on this team. I think he can be developed quickly into a pretty good 3nD wing. His role will be defined and veterans on the team will keep him focused.

As long as they don't give away any future 1st round picks - this will be a good deal. Hope they're able to move DeAndre and Bazemore to open up a spot.

I'm not sure where anyone was in 2010, but if you told me then that in 2022 we would have a team consisting of Westbrook, Ariza, Carmelo, deandre Jordan Dwight Howard to team with Lebron I'd say that's probably not a good idea

I think if you can turn THT into Alec Burks and Reddish that would definitely help. I'm not sure if it would just be a rental or not, though.

Even if it is though, at this point the Lakers have to do anything to avoid the embarrassment of missing the playoffs.
