Decent coach - absurd money.

Doesn't count against the cap so why not? Their owner can afford it. Plus you get the sense that he really had to push the offer to talk Monty out of taking some time off. And moving to Detroit.

Yea - more I thought about it - it makes sense. Lot of coaches probably don't want to go there and he's probably as good a coach they can get right now. Had they landed no1 pick - things would have been different.
Also, I think Monty is a good coach for a young team anyway.

Shams tweeted - deal could hit $100m based on team success incentives.

Going from literal hell to Detroit might be an upgrade

I wish this was hell, then all these damn Californians and Canadians would just stay home.

So here is the thing. I hear you. But we have a lot of folks that head this way from the midwest and east coast as well.
Also in my pick sure to go absolutely wrong...

Heat in 6.

Jaylen didn't step up with his 8 TOS and 1/9 from 3 land.

Miami zone defense was a headache for Cs and could cause havoc for Denver

They still would have been curb-stomped even if Tatum didn't get injured. Yeah Brown stunk up the joint and you can blame Mazulla for not being able to figure out that zone D. Celtics for the series shot 30% from 3 while the Heat shot 43%. Celtics MO all year long has been live and die by the 3.

Tatum's injury deflated Boston's balloon. They seem to be vulnerable to breaking down mentally. Last year I thought the Warriors were doomed against them, but then Curry laughed in their faces and they collapsed in the face of a mentally tougher opponent. Happened again.

Butler is great.

Yes he (Tatum) collapsed big-time against Wiggins and the Warriors last year. You'd figure with how many playoff games Tatum, Smart, and Brown have played in together along with veteran Horford that they'd be mentally tough but to me it all boils down to Tatum and his mindset. If he's mentally strong he and the team can weather any storm their way but he still has growing pains to get over.

Call me sacrilegious if you'd like but I'm actually relieved they didn't get past the Heat. Surely they would have been done in by the Nuggets had they escaped. They just weren't a very consistent team after the all-star break and it showed during these playoffs. I'm very interested in how they approach their roster this summer and if Brown is still in their long-term plans.

Only if they hit their threes like madmen and Caleb Martin continues to play like he did against the Celtics.
