Huh? ... How so? ... Does he have any control over where they send him?

They don't have to send him to his desired destination if that organization can't provide Portland the right compensation.

How do you figure that?

Of course he has control over where they send him. That's why he has said he ONLY wants to go to Miami. Portland FO came out and said they'll trade him to the highest bidder but Shams said on one of the shows today that teams are hesitant to make a big offer for him bc he may not be happy if he doesn't go to Miami. Dame can threaten to demand trade again if he is traded to a team he doesn't want to go to.

Dame signed the super-max extension last year and now wants to be traded to ONLY 1 team of his choice with 4 years left on the deal. He also waited after the draft and start of FA to demand trade when Blazers choices are further limited.

I was hoping they'd add one more guard to the rotation. Not exactly the playmaking floor general type I was hoping for off the bench, but it's not like this FA crop had those anyway. It's a get, nonetheless.

Understood. My question was contractually speaking.

If it's not written in (that he has control, or that he has a no trade clause) then they can trade him somewhere that may not be his first choice.

If he cops an attitude and the Blazers can't trade him, then let him sit out and not get paid, or retire early. GTFO as far as I care.

I'll typically sympathize with the player, until and unless they give me a reason not to do so.

It's only the apparent entitled attitude that is a complete turn-off and even that may be entirely a media creation as opposed to an actual reality.

That said, I hope he goes to Milwaukee or Philadelphia instead of Miami, but Miami wouldn't be so bad.

Oh I don't have any problem with Dame asking for a trade and I don't have a problem with him wanting to go to a specific team but he's asking to go to a team with little to no assets (unless they offer Bam - which the trade request leaked to media conveniently mentioned that he wants to play with Butler and Bam).

I think it's one thing to ask where you want to go - but you've 4 years left on a supermax extension - you're f**king your current team if you're gonna tell them you can't get a certain asset back either. Beal did that and now Dame is doing the same.
