Oh no coaching is the biggest problem. Didn't have the talent and depth under Klinsmann but they could get out a group of death and beat Euro teams in friendlies. Bradley got them to beat one of the greatest teams to ever assemble.
Colombia is definitely not the most talented team in South America and yet they are riding a 25 game unbeaten streak off the backs of failing to make the 2022 world cup. Whole team didn't suddenly change or get drastically more talented. They got a real coach.
They didn't get out of group stages in Copa bc they got a red card against Panama. Had less to do with coaching. Under Klinsmann - team still wasn't good enough to overcome bad luck.
Winning a few friendlies against European teams mean nothing. Pep couldn't get this team to win anything worth a damn.
Colombian team is actually really talented. Idk the circumstances under which they failed to make the WC but I've seen them play and they've some really talented players.
Thats another problem with USA soccer. Decisions makers focus too much on results whereas in top soccer nations - decision makers give process a little more value. Focus on the right process - positive results will generally follow.
