They've been investing a ton of money into the league over the past couple of years. It'd be weird if they didn't have a shortfall. With the new TV deal and the increased attention to the league as a result of the Clark factor, they may even become profitable in the near future.
Six networks have set records for their most-watched WNBA games ever this season.

Every single one has featured Caitlin Clark.

Everyone's suddenly talking about the WNBA so I felt obligated to share this video of Bill Burr delivering the greatest take on it in history.

The WNBA's Atlanta Dream typically play in a 3,500-seat arena.
— Joe Pompliano (@JoePompliano) June 22, 2024
But for tonight's game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, they moved it to the nearby NBA arena.
The game sold out and set a franchise record with 17,575 fans in attendance.

The WNBA marketing major in her is too strong, I've never seen a mind like this at 22. Yes, she put the pressure on Chicago to next time book the United Center, so more fans can experience a WNBA game. pic.twitter.com/GD72LsVsxJ

Wintrust holds 10k and todays game is sold out with tix in high demand. United Center holds 21k.
She's right, they are leaving money on the table.

Not the first time they've done it either. The Mercury play in the same arena as the Suns so seating availability is rarely an issue.

Caitlin Clark is a force like we've never seen when it comes to driving ratings & ticket sales in the @WNBA . "All other games" (any that don't involve the @IndianaFever )are still +1,100 over 2023. A rising tide lifts all boats. And this kid is a tsunami. (Graphic: Stacy Hunt.) pic.twitter.com/yoSncpXyiw
