USA over Brazil for womens soccer gold! Final score 1-0 USA!
I know I'm a couple of days late, but the story of the US women's soccer team was special. There are so many great storylines.
Coach Emma Hayes only had 80 days to bring this young group of gals together and she did a great job of instilling a spirit of joy and a team-first mentality. That short time frame is unheard of in soccer. Hayes is English now 47. At 20 years old, she wanted to play professional soccer but England didn't want women playing soccer so she came to the US to play. Eventually, she became arguably one of the best coaches in the world, winning multiple championships at Chelsea before accepting the US job.
Trinity Rodman, Dennis Rodman's daughter, grew up with her single mom while her dad was busy being Dennis Rodman. She is 1/3 of the Triple Espresso, (all three with black/white blood) along with Mallory Swanson (Cubs' Dansby Swanson's wife) and Sophia Smith (engaged to AZ Cards WR Mike Wilson). They dominated upfront all tournament. A special group.
Lots of other great stories as well. This young group will dominate the world women's soccer scene for a long time.
Having coached soccer for years, this Olympic team was so much fun to watch.
