So beating Dennis Siver gets you a shot at the title?
I know it's gonna be a big draw for UFC, but dude should have at least had to face Mendes or Edgar first.

Exactly I hope Aldo chops his dumb ass down. IMO what he did was kind of excessive down right stupid if you ask me.
Stat humble, humble champions last longer.

No kidding its frickin hilarious how rankings are made in the UFC. Seriously Frankie Edgar would be a big test for him, Conor is just too hyped up right now he needs to be pit in his place.

Yeah. Im not sure if the 4 other contenders ahead of him have fought Aldo but if they havent and i was them and he jumped me for a shot at the title id be pissed. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of ranking contenders when it really comes down to who will be the biggest draw come fight time

Also running out of the ring and running up on Aldo was reminiscent of wrestling.

ya, it's b******t. seems like the UFC is just padding his stats to get him the shot. He beat old ass Siver. Big fkn deal. LIke you said, he should've had to beat Edgar or some other top contender first.
oh well. I'm sure it'll be a good fight. He's a great fighter. Hope aldo kicks his head off.

They are padding his record and giving him favorable matchups...it's an old boxing promotion trick. They are fight promoters and Conor garners interest and sells fights.
Saving matchups like Edgar and Mendes for down the line is also smart. They represent different challenges that can be marketed to sell future title fights should Conor win the title from Aldo. Don't hate the player hate the game.

Silver is a stepping stone. This is all about PPV sales. If Connor beats Aldo, it's a home run for the UFC because of rematches and the contenders reshuffling. If Connor loses, they still got the big fight sales and now he faces a top contendor for another main event. It's smart.
Frankie Edgar didn't look too pleased about his title shot. Imagine the work that dude has put in, only to have some new guy step in and get catapulted to the top.

I think Frankie would have worked Connor in the same manner he worked Cub Swanson.
I haven't seen Connor fight until yesterday but I believe Siver's downfall was the fact he let Connor press the action and made Siver backpedal most of the night. That enabled Connor to wind up and pick his shots with ease.
Frankie wouldn't allow this. He would confront Connor and/or move laterally which would allow him to land way more effective counters.

Agreed, Frankie Edgar would be one to watch if McGregor beats Aldo. Frankie's footwork and head movement is just too good, I think it would be hard for McGregor to figure out a range on him. It doesn't matter if you try and push the pace with Frankie he's a stick and move type of fighter that wears people out. Also did anyone notice how open Mcgregor leaves himself for a takedown, another disadvantage when fighting Frankie who is one of the best in his class for taking people down.

Oh yeah good call on the takedown defense. You'd figure Connor would be extra careful with Frankie but that caution would definitely not allow him to fight as loose as he wants.

If I was Frankie, I would be pissed to. But if he had more personality and a following like Connor, he wouldn't have to worry about it. It is entertainment after all and its about sales. Connor's act and abilities combined make people want to watch. I think Edgar is a great fighter, but I never feel like I can't wait to watch him fight.
Having said that, I think Edgar would have a great shot at beating Connor. Edgar is so underrated. His head movement alone would make that straight left Connor was throwing way less effective.
But answer this - imagine you are throwing a party and paying for the Pay Per View - You want to watch Aldo vs. Connor or Aldo vs. Edgar?
I will take the first.
