The pass-rush needy 49ers won't pick up the 2018 contract option on outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who led the team with 6.5 sacks last year. Dumervil, 34, was scheduled to earn a $2.75 million base salary with $750,000 in roster bonuses in 2018. The 49ers, who have ample slaray cap space, tied for 26th in the NFL in sacks (30) in 2017 and Dumervil was the only player who managed more than three. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Dumervil ranks 26th in NFL history in sacks (105.5). His 12-year career began in Denver, where he was a teammate of 49ers general manager John Lynch.
