The San Francisco 49ers have signed rookie safety Marcell Harris, who played college football at Florida. He was selected in the sixth round with the No. 184 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Only three of the team's nine draft picks remain unsigned. They are first-round pick Mike McGlinchey (OT, Notre Dame), second-round pick Dante Pettis (WR, Washington), and third-round pick Fred Warner (LB, BYU).
Harris had a slow start with Florida because he was recovering from a knee injury suffered in high school. He had a break-out season for the Gators as a junior in 2016. Harris registered 73 combined tackles, four for a loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a sack, and scored a touchdown on defense. He did not play during his senior season after suffering a torn Achilles last summer.
Thanks to the 2011 CBA, all rookie contracts are now for a length of four years. Only first-round selections come with an option for a fifth year, which does not apply to Harris. Having set numbers for each spot eliminates the need to negotiate salaries and only leaves items like bonus payment terms, roster bonus allocations, and other miscellaneous structural items.
The total value of Harris' four-year contract is believed to be $2,626,300, or very close to that amount, according to Over the Cap. That includes a signing bonus of $166,300 and a 2018 salary cap figure of $521,575.
