San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin ended this past season on injured reserve. He landed on the list on December 10, 2019, after appearing on practice participation reports with knee and foot injuries. The team may be trying to determine his value to other organizations.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Goodwin, who is set to count over $11 million against the salary cap over the next two seasons, has been discussed in trade talks.
One name that has been discussed in trade talks: #49ers speedy WR Marquise Goodwin. The deep threat is due roughly $10M over two years, so his contract can be traded. Meanwhile, SF's young core of WRs is emerging.
Goodwin, 29, is entering his eighth NFL season. He initially signed a two-year contract with the 49ers on March 9, 2017, and then signed a three-year extension on March 8, 2018.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said last week that Goodwin is too valuable for the 49ers to release, but left the possibility of a trade wide-open.
"We wouldn't release Marquise," head coach Kyle Shanahan said at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He's too valuable. I know he fell out of the rotation last year, then he had an injury (and) wanted to go on IR so he could get it cleaned up. I think it is right now. I haven't seen him for a while. Marquise is a guy who can play in this league."
Shanahan went on to note that, should Goodwin be on the roster in 2020, he would need to compete with the rest of the receivers for a spot.
"If he's on this team, he's going to be competing with that group and, if not, I feel pretty confident another team would want him," Shanahan added.
The Buffalo Bills made Goodwin a third-round selection out of Texas in 2013. He registered just 12 receptions for 186 yards with a touchdown through nine games and six starts with the 49ers in 2019.
