The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 3 matchup on the road against the New York Giants. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game.
NFL teams can each have 48 players active on game days. This season, each can promote one or two players from the practice squad up to 90 minutes before kickoff, potentially increasing the active roster up to 55 players. After the game, any elevated player will revert back to the practice squad without having to go through waivers. Teams can do this twice with each player before having to sign them to the active roster, as was the case with center Hroniss Grasu this week.
The 49ers on Saturday promoted running back JaMycal Hasty and linebacker Joe Walker from the practice squad.
Among those who are inactive today are several players who are injured. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is dealing with a high-ankle sprain suffered a week ago. Nick Mullens will start in his place.
Tight end George Kittle is attempting to return from an MCL sprain and bone bruise sustained during Week 1. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw suffered a thigh contusion. Defensive end Dee Ford is dealing with a back injury, and it is unknown when he might return.
Each of those players was already ruled out on Friday.
Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was listed as "questionable" due to a hamstring injury. He, along with guard Tom Compton, is inactive. Jason Verrett will likely start in Witherspoon's place.
Below are the players who will be inactive for the 49ers:
