San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before today's practice and shared some good news regarding Trent Williams. The veteran offensive tackle suffered an ankle injury on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams and will not practice today. No, that's not the good news.

The good news is that tests showed that the injury was not as serious as it could have been, with some fearing a high-ankle sprain or worse.

"[The scans] showed that nothing was broken and that it wasn't a high-ankle (sprain)," Shanahan said. "So, that was good news, but (he's) still in too much pain to practice today, and I know he'll be questionable throughout the week. Hopefully, it will get better each day, but it's not there yet."

Shanahan isn't optimistic that cornerback Richard Sherman or defensive end Dee Ford will be back before the Week 11 bye.

"He got those [shots] last week," Shanahan said of Sherman. "Now, he's in a boot just taking care of it, making sure it heals, letting [that take it's] course. I thought I'd have more answers this week, but I still think it's going to be a few weeks on that.

"It's obviously going a little longer than we expected. Got to play it smart with him. But I don't see it being week-to-week right now. I see it being probably until around our bye week."

Added Shanahan about Ford: "I would still throw it similar into that category — after our bye week. I mean, he's gotten the work he's needed. He got the shots he's needed. He's rested it. Now, he's just starting to get back into some things. But still ways away on that."

Shanahan shared that the following players also will not practice today due to injuries.

  • Running back Raheem Mostert is headed to injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain.
  • Linebacker Kwon Alexander is also dealing with an ankle injury.
  • Safety Jaquiski Tartt is dealing with a groin strain.

Shanahan added that cornerback Dontae Johnson and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. will be limited in practice.
