49ers’ Travis Benjamin recalls his family’s coronavirus tragedy and his move to opt out

Last summer, not long before 49ers wide receiver Travis Benjamin became one of the 69 players to opt out of the NFL season, he fully expected to play in 2020. But then the coronavirus pandemic became personal: On July 3, Benjamin's grandmother, Elizabeth Brissett, 77, died of complications from COVID-19.
