The San Francisco 49ers reached out to the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday about possibly trading for Aaron Rodgers. Today, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the reason. It's because the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback and three-time league MVP does not want to return to the Packers.
Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

That certainly explains why the 49ers reached out. The team is good about doing its due diligence. San Francisco owns the No. 3 overall pick, with the start of the draft just hours away.

Schefter added on ESPN that Packers officials have been trying to meet with Rodgers to convince him to change his mind.
"To date, Aaron Rodgers has not budged," Schefter said. "And so we have standoff here that nobody knows exactly where it's going. And thus, the 49ers called the Green Bay Packers last night, and the Packers said, 'We're not trading him.'
"And the Los Angeles Rams called in January, before they traded for Matthew Stafford, to see if they would trade him, and they were told, 'No.'"
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst issued a statement saying that the team remains committed to Rodgers in 2021 and beyond. However, some within the organization aren't sure if Rodgers will ever return.
