The 49ers took two more hits on the defensive line Friday, with defensive tackle Maurice Hurst suffering what is likely to be a season-ending injury and defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway sustaining a quad injury that could cost him a couple weeks of practice.
News of both injuries was announced by head coach Kyle Shanahan ahead of Saturday's practice session. Hurst tore his biceps in practice while trying to tackle a runner, according to a tweet from David Lombardi of The Athletic, and will require surgery. Ridgeway took a mild quad strain that may result in him being sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Hurst, 27, is in his second season with the 49ers but was limited to just two games in 2021 due to a calf injury. He was predicted by many to be among those who would make the 53-man roster out of a deep defensive line group. Ridgeway, 27, is in his first year with the 49ers after signing with the team in the spring.
