San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy made his KNBR debut on Tuesday. Obviously, the seriousness of Monday night's scary incident at Paycor Stadium was the first topic of discussion. Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed to the ground after assisting on a tackle in the first quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Medical personnel administered CPR on Hamlin as players from both teams prayed for the 24-year-old safety. Hamlin was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center via ambulance.
"Just all my thoughts and prayers to him, his family and friends, and everyone that knows him, his teammates," Purdy said on KNBR. "It's a horrible situation, and we all feel for him. As a player, we get it, how violent the game is and everything, but for something like this to happen, it's tragic.
"So we're all behind him, and we know what he's done in his community and for his team. He's been amazing. So we're right there with him, praying for him."
Hamlin's The Chasing M Foundation started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a community toy drive. The initial goal was to raise $2,500. Instead, the campaign has raised about $4 million as of this post, with several NFL stars, like 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and quarterback Trey Lance, donating to the cause.
Understandably, the NFL postponed Monday night's Bills-Bengals game. Hamlin remains in critical condition.
