San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Thursday, after the team's first joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. He provided a few injury updates.

Wide receiver and special teams returner Ray-Ray McCloud suffered a broken wrist during Tuesday's practice and will undergo surgery. The coach expects him to be out for about eight weeks.

"It could be a little less," Shanahan said of the timeframe. "Hopefully, it is. We'll see. I think he's getting surgery Friday."

The coach noted that the team will evaluate in-house replacements before determining if signing a player is necessary. The 49ers aren't likely to place McCloud on the injured reserve list before the start of the season, making him eligible to return this year.

Shanahan looks forward to the upcoming open competition, saying fullback Kyle Juszczyk is a good and natural punt returner. However, he added, "Hopefully, we have a few other guys before our fullback is out there."

McCloud played 140 special teams snaps last season. He was also in on 286 offensive snaps, finishing the season with 14 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown. McCloud also had four carries for 78 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Defensive end Drake Jackson did not practice. He is dealing with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw left practice with a hamstring strain, while tight end George Kittle was out with an adductor strain.
