Arik Armstead wasn't the only San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle battling injury in the Super Bowl. On Tuesday, Armstead revealed that he sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee during the team's December 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He returned for the playoffs, playing through the injury.
Armstead is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Javon Hargrave was also playing through an injury. General manager John Lynch disclosed that the team's other starting defensive tackle was battling a torn thumb ligament. Lynch did not specify when the injury occurred.
Hargrave finished the season with seven sacks, 44 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, 14 quarterback hits, and two passes defensed. Additionally, he contributed 10 tackles and a tackle for a loss across the 49ers' three playoff games and sacked Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
