According to the NFL transaction wire, the San Francisco 49ers have placed rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, the team's first-round draft pick, on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list. Pearsall and the other 49ers' first-year players reported to training camp today. Veterans report on July 23.

The NFI list is for players who suffer an injury while away from the team. Examples include injuries sustained during personal training, recreational activities, or, for rookies, during their last collegiate season.

Pearsall wore a blue non-contact jersey during San Francisco's mandatory minicamp last month. Head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that the rookie wide receiver had a "little soreness" left over from organized team activities (OTAs), and the jersey was a precautionary measure.

Later, Pearsall worked out with teammate and fellow receiver Deebo Samuel during the 49ers' break leading to training camp. The two were seen working with strength and speed coach Nicholas Hill of Exos Sports.

Update: Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that Pearsall's injury is not considered serious.

Pearsall will continue to count against the 49ers' 90-man roster. San Francisco can activate the wideout off the NFI list at any point during camp.

The 49ers selected Pearsall out of Florida with the No. 31 overall pick in April's draft. He registered 65 receptions for 965 yards and four touchdowns through 12 game appearances as a senior in 2023, per Sports Reference.

Throughout his collegiate career, Pearsall caught 159 passes for 2,420 yards with 14 touchdowns over five combined seasons with Florida and Arizona State.
