Purdy bounces back

Brock Purdy experienced a challenging few days, throwing three interceptions during Monday's practice and following up with four interceptions on Tuesday. However, Wednesday's practice saw a much-improved performance from the third-year quarterback.

According to Jake Hutchinson of Audacy, Purdy began red-zone drills with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Deebo Samuel. He also connected with a wide-open Ricky Pearsall and tight end George Kittle for additional scores.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Purdy did not throw any interceptions during the latest practice. Maiocco described Purdy's performance, noting, "Purdy delivered a 5-yard touchdown pass to Pearsall, who shook free and got wide open in the middle of the end zone. He also threw short touchdown passes to Deebo Samuel and George Kittle."

Hutchinson added, "Against pressure, Purdy got a couple quick completions, then had a bad throwaway to Chris Conley with Pearsall open on the other side. He made up for it by finding Pearsall open against Isaac Yiadom on the next series."

Purdy nearly threw an interception to linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, who anticipated the screen play. The quarterback recovered by connecting with wide receiver Ronnie Bell, who made a leaping catch over cornerback Charvarius Ward.

After practice, Purdy joined Bay Area radio station KNBR and discussed the media's focus on practice statistics.

"It's a fine line," Purdy explained. "You want to go out, you want to be efficient, you want to go through reads, and obviously protect the ball and whatnot. ... Can I fit it in this window on this hitch? Can I look off [LB] Fred [Warner] or [Flannigan-Fowles] or [LB De'Vondre Campbell] in a certain way and then make that throw backside? You gotta try it out."

Aiyuk news on the horizon?

The following video has sparked some buzz among 49ers fans. It features a delighted Brandon Aiyuk interacting with an equally cheerful John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan. Could this suggest some deeper meaning or potential progress on his contract extension? As of now, the 49ers have yet to officially announce any updates.

Moody impressive

Second-year kicker Jake Moody connected on all four of his field goal attempts during practice, successfully hitting from 33 yards and 38 yards twice each. He has missed only one kick throughout all of training camp.

Quick notes

Hutchinson noted that Pearsall, the rookie wideout, has been "impressive," writing, "He is polished, physical, athletic, and with a skillset that projects well at every receiver spot."

Pearsall has shown a knack for creating separation. Even though the result was a dropped pass, the rookie beat Ward during Wednesday's practice. He also had a "great block" against Chase Lucas on a run play and beat safety George Odum on a play where the ball didn't come his way.

"Pearsall's worst rep of the day came on a quick out against Dee Winters," Hutchinson wrote. "Winters was tight to his inside hip and forced a bobble. Pearsall nearly came down with the ball after a couple bobbles, but was out of bounds by the time he did.

"He got wide open on the next series on a play that went to Ronnie Bell, who made a leaping grab against Ward."

Winters and fellow linebacker Jalen Graham were impressive during Wednesday's practice, stuffing runs and delivering hard hits to the receivers. Graham nearly got into a skirmish with rookie offensive lineman Drake Nugent, but it was quickly broken up.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN reported that offensive linemen Nick Zakelj and Ben Bartch alternated between the first and second teams, playing left guard and center.

With Hargrave sitting out practice, Kevin Givens took first-team reps at defensive tackle. Yetur Gross-Matos, typically a defensive end, also got some work along the interior.

Wagoner notes that Bell, a roster-bubble player, "made a pair of impressive, contested catches, including one from QB Brock Purdy on a deep out to the right sideline in which he climbed the ladder, high pointed the ball and held on even with CB Charvarius Ward right on top of him. Later, he caught a touchdown in red zone work from QB Brandon Allen despite CB Ambry Thomas being draped all over him."

Multiple reporters praised rookie wide receiver Terique Owens, the son of Terrell Owens. He had a long touchdown catch during Wednesday's practice but also dropped another potential score from a throw by Brandon Allen.
